Love it or hate it, Launchpad is here to stay in OS X Lion, but even if you’re on board with the idea of Launchpad philosophically, it does have one blatant problem in that it shows every app on your machine by default… not very handy for those of us with a thousand pieces of software on our machine who’d like to use Launchpad as a more minimalist launcher for our favorite apps.
We’ve looked at utilities before that help manage LaunchPad, but they were pretty rudimentary affairs… just a list of apps and some tick boxes.
Launchpad Cleaner 2, though? Bloody gorgeous. You can not only hide apps from showing up in Launchpad and rename them, you can even back up your Launchpad layout and export it to another machine. Sounds like just the sort of thing that could actually make Launchpad usable for power users… surely worth $4.99.

I just p a i d $21.87 for an i P a d 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonîc Lumîx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

I think that thing is uglier than launchpad itself, and that’s saying something. Â
“Launchpad Cleaner 2, though? Bloody gorgeous.”
You must be joking. Bloody useful, maybe.
As a designer on my iMac,I find LaunchPad annoying at best. I use Adobe stuff and the usual Mail, Safari, etc. I don’t need to see the dozens of 3rd-party utility programs large as life.Â
However, my solution to LaunchPad is . . . to not use it, so I just ignore it. I don’t see the reason for all the kerfluffle over the stupid application. Use it or don’t.
The Dock still works.Â

Gorgeous? Really, John?
I’m amazed at how many cultofmac writers don’t get Apple at all.
No, not gorgeous. It’s an Adobe Air Frankenstein-ized app, that barely works. Clumsy at best, annoying all the time (constant pop ups to get the ‘Pro’ version).
Adobe Air apps should never be free. They should pay us to use them.
This is another great example of what Adobe thinks is what a Mac app should be.
With the availability of folders, why would you want to hide apps in the launchpad? Doesn’t that make things a bit more complicated? A folder with unused/hidden apps would make much more sense.
Put them in folders to keep them out of the way, as one would on an iPhone
all you need is terminal and two commands
