Following recent rumors that Apple may be adding a second manufacturer to its iPad supply chain for the launch of a third device, Foxconn Electronics has reportedly “exerted its efforts to protect its orders” and has “persuaded” Apple not to shift production of the device to a second contractor.
It was reported earlier this week that Apple was seeking an additional iPad supplier in an attempt to better cope with the demand of a third device, expected to launch later this year. Having already secured a deal to supply 10 million iPhone 5 units to the Cupertino company, Pegatron Technology was tipped to join the iPad supply chain and share production with Foxconn.
However, thanks to Foxconn’s recent efforts, it seems Pegatron’s chances of producing Apple’s tablet have been eliminated, according to sources for DigiTimes:
“…Foxconn has exerted its efforts to protect its orders and apparently has persuaded Apple to not shift some of its iPad orders to other contractors for the moment.”
In addition to its iPhone 5 orders, however, Pegatron is reportedly aiming to secure orders for a fourth iPad, as well as notebooks and desktops from Apple during 2012.

“foxcon convinces apple that it can produce the ipad3 alone, with just under 13 suicides” it’s Good that they want work, but not so much that pushes the workers to end there lives.
I call bull. Absolutely NO way they will be able to keep up w/ demand. There has been over whelming demand for all apple products. The iPad has been more out of stock than in stock. It is hurting Apples bottom line by remaining at 100% production for 2Q straight. They should add a second company to produce iPads. Lets not forget who assembles the iPhone and and a new one is coming out right around the same time.

There is just NO WAY apple would be so dumb to put all the eggs into one basket after the explosion incident at foxconn ipad plant.
I already knew this was coming, that Foxconn would beg for Apple to keep them as their sole manufacturer in China, but too bad, Apple is a very realistic company and there is just too much risk to gamble on just one production source when mobile-devices industry is now EXTREMELY competitive.
Yes they did add a new plant in Brazil, but they have also failed to deliver enough supply for the past 3 iPhones and 2 iPads. They also failed to deliver a white iPhone 4 within 8 months. i know the white iPhone 4 may or may not be their fault. but it still shows that Apple needs to branch out. They use multiple people to source displays, memory, and other components, maybe it is time to hand final assembly to multiple parties
