Apple Reseller Thieves Take Laptops, Leave iPads and iPods

Thieves broke into an Apple reseller to swipe 22 laptops, leaving behind iPads and iPods.

Police in Brattleboro, Vermont believe the perps may be professionals who worked on commission, especially since they left behind two iPads on display and a box full of iPods.

“It’s definitely about the desirability of the product — iPods, iPads and Macs,” said Patrick Brown, owner of Brown Computer Solutions, who found his store stock a lot lighter after the 10:30 pm break-in. “If [thieves] can get 50 cents on the dollar, it’s pretty good money, and they are probably getting a lot more than 50 cents on the dollar,” he said. “If they were trying to sell Dell machines, they’d get 10 cents on the dollar.”

The recent number of smash-and-grabs at Apple stores around the country has prompted an FBI investigation.

How does he know the resale value? In with the burglars?

How does the owner of a computer resell store know about resale value?

  3. JayeDee369 says:

The resell value is common knowledge, you can get that off Google. What I’m more interested in is the preciseness of the theft. Only Macbooks? I’m hoping that these things have a tag or tracking device because I would love to see who’s buying these stolen goods. I think Apple should start incorporating find my iPhone tech into their mac books. I had mine recently stolen, thank goodness I was in the vicinity and the thief couldn’t leave the building without exposing the device. I think we should all watch these crimes very closely cause at some point the thieves will stop targeting stores and start targeting customers.

The iDevices can be tracked and disabled remotely. The laptops cannot.

Good one. The iHaters now have solid proof.

  7. CharliK says:

Actually the iPads are very popular. But thieves know they can get more for ones still sealed in the box and the store only had opened display models. So why bother with those

  8. CharliK says:

A quick search on craigslist or eBay can give you that info

  9. Jayr Felarca says:

Yeah.. The laptops cannot be tracked and disabled remotely.
