Well, that was quick. Just a little over a week after Apple released iOS 4.3.4, plugging up the JailbreakMe v3 hole, Apple has already released iOS 4.3.5. But what’s the update for?

According to the update itself, iOS 4.3.5 “fixes a security vulnerability with certificate validation.”

All Apple hardware that can run iOS 4 is supported, except for the Verizon iPhone. That handset has a similar fix available, labeled iOS 4.2.10.

You can grab the update by plugging your iOS device into iTunes and hitting the “Check for Update” button.

We’re not actually familiar with the security vulnerabilities being addressed here. Anyone have any idea? Let us know in the comments. We’ll update the post if we get a good answer.

Think Apple could release a patch to iOS 4 allowing OTA to iOS 5? Would be nice…

Apparently, it’s not for the 3Gs. According to the check for update, my 3Gs on 4.3.4 is “up to date”.

Okay, cancel that. Weird. Hit it again for giggles and grins, and it magically became available.

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
