Firemint’s ‘Real Racing 2’ Now Offers Dual-Screen Gaming at 1080p

An update to Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD game today sees the company introduce dual-screen gaming to the iPad 2 using the new Digital AV Adapter accessory. When hooked up to a HDTV, users can enjoy their race in 1080p on their TV, while their iPad displays an alternative image from the game – such as a map of the circuit – simultaneously.

The iPad continues to act as a controller, so you can control the car on your TV using the iPad’s gyroscope controls, as demonstrated in the video below.

You can also switch back and forth between dual-screen gaming within a race, so there’s no need to restart the game or start a new race when you want to add or remove your HDTV. You can start a game on your TV, then unplug your device and continue from where you left off on your iPad.

Check out Firemint’s new video that shows off dual-screen gaming below; I think you’ll agree it looks pretty impressive.

We hope other game developers take note and implement dual-screen gaming into their own apps and games. There are so many games in the App Store that would work magnificently with this feature.

If you’ve had chance to try out dual-screen gaming with the latest version of Real Racing 2, let us know what it’s like in the comments.

if they make it work for appletv, it would rock (at least for me)

Why not iPhone? It’s quite a bit smaller and lighter, therefore easier to use as a controller.

I think a lot of folks would agree.

In fact I suspect that that’s the kind of stuff Jobs was talking about when he said the ATV will get apps when the time is right. It won’t be every single app out there like they did with the iPhone to iPad. But apps made for this kind of use. And these digital adapter using apps could be the phase one (with an API added so that they can use wired or ‘wireless’ mode for the same effect)

This is really cool! I think racing was reinvented in a much higher level with the rise of the tablets. Thanks a lot for sharing the news here. talking about racing, please give a feedback on a game I made called Street Rally. Feedbacks and comments will be highly appreciated.
