Apple is growing its slate of children’s programming with Jane, which is inspired by the mission of Dr. Jane Goodall. However, it won’t be a biopic of the famed chimpanzee researcher. Instead, it’s about about a little girl, her active imagination and a desire to rescue animals.
Me Jane, you Apple TV+
Jane on Apple TV+ follows Jane Garcia, a 10-year-old girl. Through her imagination, Jane and her trusty teammates work to protect an endangered animal in each mission-driven episode because, according to her idol: “Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, can they be saved.”
The show is being developed with the cooperation of the Jane Goodall Institute. Dame Goodall is considered to be the world’s foremost expert on chimps after her 60 years of study of these primates in the wild.
J.J. Johnson will sit in the director’s chair. He’s from Sinking Ship Entertainment, which won an Emmy for producing Ghostwriter for Apple TV+. The company is also producing Jane, and both childrens’ shows blend live action and CGI.
Apple TV+ is for kids too
Jane will join a growing collection of other offerings for kids on Apple’s streaming service. The most recent addition is The Snoopy Show, which is all about Charlie Brown’s irrepressible pooch.
But that’s just the start. There’s Wolfwalkers, an acclaimed animated film about shape-shifting girls. Kids can get a touch of Zen with Stillwater. Younger children can enjoy Doug Unplugs and Helpsters.
But it’s not all kid stuff. Adults can appreciate the collection of 50+ series and films, either available now or coming soon. There are thrillers, crime dramas, comedies and documentaries. Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month.
