Three senior Apple executives are in talks with Hollywood’s “most successful” TV and movie producers over original content for Apple TV, according to a new report.
Each member of the trio, which includes Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, is so desperate to secure the first deal that they supposedly are fighting against each other.
Apple has been desperately trying to make the Apple TV more relevant in recent years. While the company’s efforts have fallen short so far, it isn’t giving up. According to the New York Post, Cupertino has a small team of big names trying to secure deals with Hollywood.
Cue was one of the people who attended talks with Paramount Pictures and Sony last week, the report claims. Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine and content chief Robert Kondrk are also said to be involved with the negotiations.
“They are preparing something big,” one source said. But Apple’s inability to secure any significant deals up to this point could have something to do with internal conflicts.
It is claimed that Cue, Iovine and Kondrk are all so desperate to be the person who secures the first big deal that they’re fighting against each other. “They each want to be the guy, and they’re telling people, don’t deal with the other one,” a source said.
“Eddy is talking to some people. Jimmy is talking to others,” claimed a second insider. “They just haven’t figured it out.”
Apple has been able to produce a couple of its own shows — Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps — which are coming soon to Apple Music. However, the company has long been trying to put together a streaming package that could allow users to cut their cable subscription.
