Apple’s Tim Cook has been very public about his stance on gay rights.
Now he’s calling out the state of Indiana’s highly controversial “religious freedom” bill, which Governor Mike Pence signed into law yesterday.
“Apple is open for everyone,” tweeted Cook today, who marched in San Francisco’s Pride Parade last year with his employees. “We are deeply disappointed in Indiana’s new law and calling on Arkansas Gov. to veto the similar #HB1228.”
Indiana’s “religious freedom” law opens the door for businesses to potentially deny service if they disagree with a person’s sexual orientation based on religious beliefs. Governor Pence has said the bill is anti-discriminatory and that “if I thought it legalized discrimination I would have vetoed it.”
“The Constitution of the United States and the Indiana Constitution both provide strong recognition of the freedom of religion but today, many people of faith feel their religious liberty is under attack by government action,” the Republican Governor said in a statement.
The bill Cook called for Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson to veto would allow for the same kind of LGBT discrimination.
“Around the world, we strive to treat every customer the same — regardless of where they come from, how they worship or who they love,” Cook said on Twitter, echoing the corporate ethos Apple has been very public about throughout its history as a company.
Cook has spoken out in his home state of Alabama about gay and racial discrimination, and Apple publicly stood with the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down California’s ban on gay marriage in 2013. The company reached out to Arizona’s Governor last month urging her to veto a bill that would allow businesses to deny service to gays. The bill was vetoed before it became law.

If you’re not competent enough to get names of governors correct, (AZ) maybe you shouldn’t be making posts about laws you likely don’t understand either.
Seems like a very accurate interpretation of what could happen based on an individuals interpretation of there “religious” beliefs.
Being a citizen of Arkansas, I think Asa Hutchinson is my governor. Not Arizona’s.
hey cook. u want government to stay out of your business when it comes to national security. but yet u stick your mouth in their business? stfu and go back to screwing up apple.
Record profits this and last quarter, go back to being a dickhead. You Asshole.
I agree with your opinion of Liquidreasoning
So profits equal quality is that what you are saying DICKHEAD.. Profits usually mean they cut corners and cheapn the quality. So before you open your retarded fucking mouth.. think before you type asshole
I don’t know. Let me get this straight. If you have strongly held religious beliefs and they clash with gay rights, they have to be denied and gay rights trump the religious liberty that is afforded us in the constitution?
“Let me get this straight.”?! Straight? STRAIGHT?! Can’t believe you would say that, you homophobe!
You didn’t get it straight. ‘Gay rights’ are human rights, but some people seem to think they’re not. Imagine a doctor could save your life but decided not to because you were straight. Would it be right? That a gay person could deny
You treatment because he didn’t agree with what you do? With something that affected him in absolutely no way whatsoever?
Quit being so melodramatic, ‘as if we’re some sort of animal’…jeez man.
Please, tell me what religious beliefs-which are not a gay person would have that would cause them to decline someone medical care because they were straight? And to follow up, what difference would it make to me if he held those beliefs, as that just means that gay doctor doesn’t see straight patients? *GASP* That would only mean 1 thing….I would go to a different damn doctor!?!? EEK!
Busted sentence, ‘which are not’ should have been deleted there, not sure what happened. Apologies.
You’ve got a cancerous brain tumour – one of the best doctors anywhere near you is gay and has the legal right to deny you his services because you’re straight. You’re happy to be sent to a lesser qualified surgeon? Melodramatic? Stop being an uneducated backwards idiot and supporting the oppression of sexual minorities and I’ll have no need to be. You and all you stand for is flawed. If you want human rights, you want gay rights. They’re the same thing.
Will you also afford those rights to pedophiles too because they claim they were “born like that” too?
The reasons behind sex with children being illegal is for the safety and well being of infants who have not yet fully developed sexually, physically and mentally. This is universally recognised. But apparently you seem to think they deserve more right? If a pedophile was released after serving a sentence, you’ve got no legal right to deny him a service, yet you think it’s right to deny a person who you suspect to be homosexual? Deluded.
Who am I to edit the bible? Seeing as our species creates it, I’d say I’m the exact right person. The bible is communicated in language, a method of communication we devised. Language is subjective and exists is only amongst our agreement that words carry certain meaning. As soon as we deny that word a meaning, it no longer exists. A word cannot make a
Demand upon you and therefore is not a truth. What an excellent plan by the God almighty.
You see, your lack of convenient understanding just makes you plain ignorant.
He gave us free will, it’s just you decide to excercize yours by spitting in his face.
you’re so deluded by the idea of a god that you’re unable to see how insane you come across.
Just as insane as you thinking people are going to accept what you do.
I’ll go through life completely happy, you’ll go throught life trying to fight for and force people to accept your actions. I feel sorry for you.
You’ll never know what it’s like to have children (I mean really have them, not purchase one), you’ll never know freedom, and you’ll never know the absolute joy of knowing and loving God, just because it doesn’t agree with your selfish opinion.
Oh but I forgot, you were born this way right!
I’m from the UK, I feel free and happy. I don’t want children. You mad? You’re becoming the minority – society is shifting away from the prehistoric views of homosexuality. You and your dinosaur cults will be nothing but a joke in twenty years. You’re entire existence will be laughed upon. Did you know that, on average, homosexuals earn more money in their positions than heterosexuals in the workplace? We were born that way, more intelligent that you’re evreyday religious dinosaur.
So am I. I lived there for 32 years before moving to the U.S.
I have a degree, a masters and a PhD from Swansea University. If you want to go head to head on education, let’s go…
As for nothing but a joke in 20 years, you may be right. I may see you parading hand in hand with a pedophile congratulating them in their lawful win to marry kids as they lobbied at reducing the age for minor sex because they were born that way. They will thank you for paving the way for them and teaching them how to win.
As for the intelligence and earning potential of homosexuals being more than heterosexuals, I couldn’t help but have a real good laugh at that. Where did you read that, gay times? You’re completely lost my boy. Confused, and now spewing complete. Crap that you’ll earn more being bent.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA keep them coming….
I can’t even bring myself to read your hilarious comparisons. I am sorry that you’re blinded by the lie that is religion and that you’ll never feel the joy of a free and real life.
No I’m just making the point that they complain that they cannot do just what they want and they are oppressed just because they are born that way. Sound familiar?
So you believe that everey aspect of a person should be divided into a segregation and rights assigned? Brown hair rights, white skin rights, tall rights, short rights.. See how crazy you sound? You’re comparing fire and water – being gay is a completly different realm to homosexuality – sex with children illegal for scientific and developmental reasons. The fact that you use it as a comparison just shows how underdeveloped your brain is.
Again, you see how really similar your arguments are?
But you like to differentiate because you’re in one group and maybe not in the other.
You’re selfish.
My arguments are logical. By trying to discredit my arguments by saying their similar is a cowardly Move. Go feed the world with bread and fishes.
Just take a moment before putting on your pink pants, they have the same arguments as you.. You’re marginalizing their honest and real feelings.
Every argument you have posted here could be applied to a paedophile and in 20 years like you said, they probably will thanks to the departure from morals and standards that were put there to protect us as a race.
Read the account of soddom and Gomorrah, you can expect that again in the future. Just giving you fair warning. You cannot do anything to stop it, and when it does, hopefully you’ll remember our brief exchange.
You’re compring the love between two people with a sexual act made upon children. Why are you so obsessed with pedophiles and sex? I honestly hope any children you have are not consumed by the venomous lies of religion. They will not survive in the real world.
Your logic is so twisted. You realize this is 2015, right?
Let’s say I was white doctor and my belief prevented me from seeing black patients… no big deal, right? They can just find a doctor that does see black patients.
Your beliefs prevent you from doing something? How weak-willed are you?
I have a word for you to look up: Hypothetical.
I guess you can throw that word around as a convenient excuse when you don’t want to take responsibility for the garbage that comes out of your mouth. Nice try.
Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit, is it?
And intelligence isn’t yours.
In all honesty I probably wouldn’t trust a doctor like that to operate on me regardless
Ask a Jehovah’s witness that when they are denied medical attention because they refuse blood.
My beliefs have nothing to do with religious rights or beliefs. I am not Christian, nor do I believe in a god. I do believe though that any man who is willing to stick his man parts in a hole that is meant to excrete human waste is in need of serious psychiatric help. Even though I am not Christian, I do believe that man and woman exist for a reason. The world would not, no could not exist without them, and no amount of reasoning can deny it. Nature itself proves that male and female are the normal relationship for the world to exist. Sticking your man parts in a shit hole just isn’t natural.
Miss your God-given right to deny service to women, Jews, and blacks, too, doncha?
It turns out your right to be a bigot ends right before the rights of everyone to be treated with dignity begins.
Gay is not the same as race F@g
And gender and religion are? Slow down, big guy, the steam’s starting to come out of your ears again.
Who’s side are you on??????
Lol, looking at replies to your comment…although you did lose me at the ‘f@g’ comment you made…up till then you were doing ok.
it’s hilarious how when someones marriage beliefs don’t jive with gay marriage beliefs it’s all “WE WON’T be discriminated against”, but when that persons religious/business practices don’t jive with gay ideals it’s “we have no problem discriminating against YOUR beliefs” AND they want to sue/shut down those people and their livelihood. Our gay friends are about the quietest, most down to earth…non-attention whores we know. Their identities aren’t so fragile that if someone won’t bake them a cake or take their picture they shatter and turn into little children demanding attention, they just take their business elsewhere.
Gay ideals? Gay marriage? Just stop. You’re embarrasing yourself.
Marriage is based on a regigious belief that a man and a woman be put together under the eyes of God.
Who are you to ‘edit’ the Bible or change the rules set by God!
You must really think something of yourself to want to put yourself above God.
God created a subjective agreement amongst humans? Which can only be explained and understood through language, which was also devised by humans? Marriage is not an objective entity I’m afraid. If we did not agree amongst our perspectives that it exists, it does not, how can an almighty God control us if we decide to reject the idea? He can’t, because there isn’t one and you’re deluded.
Yeah… that’s what they used to say about slavery in the good ol’ US of A. Are you going to apply the same “logic” to bring back slavery? I mean, it’s mandated in the the Bible, and people used the Bible and their “religious views” to justify something that was so utterly wrong. So, if gays can be discriminated against because of some obscure Bible verse, why not bring back slavery for the same reason? That is, unless you’re a sane, decent, moral human being and realize just because someone’s outdated holy book from thousands of years ago proscribes inhumane treatment of people, doesn’t mean they have the right to do that today. We’ve grown up… and it’s high time that these self-proclaimed prophets of mumbo-jumbo to do likewise and concede the rights that everyone else takes for granted. We’ve had marriage equality in Canada for over 10 years and you don’t see our country falling apart.
Andrew, you have to know and understand the Bible to be able to comment about it.
I consider myself a slave to Christ. I don’t find that offensive in the least. Slavery in the Bible shows both oppression and also willing service. Obviously the slavery of the Jews by the Egyptians was frowned upon by God, that’s why he freed them. But also the term slave was used as a person who willingly served another’s household. They were treated as part of the family.
It’s important to know the origins of things. It’s very convenient not to believe in God just because our views don’t agree with his laws and principles.
They are there to protect and guide us humans who choose to follow them.
Everyone has differing views, but you absolutely CANNOT force someone to accept yours. Gay or not. If someone wishes to make a decision based on religious beliefs, you cannot force them to do otherwise. Likewise you cannot force a gay person to be with a person of the opposite sex just because you consider that normal too.
A great example of this is if I refuse a medical treatment that could save my life because of my strong beliefs in what the Bible says. People call me a fool and an idiot for taking a stand for what I believe in. However, a contrasting point here is if I decided to go to war for a country I believed in and died. Then I would be called a hero.
It’s not all one sided and you’re never going to have everyone accept it and no matter how much money or exposure you have, making people feel bad about a decision in their lives be it about being religious or gay is unacceptable. That is what you have to come to terms with.
LOL. I’m a preacher’s kid and was a hard-core born-again fundamentalist Baptist Christian for 20 years. I’ve read and studied the Bible more than most people. Not only that, but the more I looked into the history and the way the Bible was written, the more I learned that it’s not the word of a god, but of extremely ignorant and primitive people. Some books are incredibly rich in poetry and meaning, like Ecclesiastes, but a lot of it is made up mythos that isn’t even original. Standard mainstream scholarship (not the Liberty University type of propagandist education) backs this up. As for slavery in the Bible, no I’m not talking about indentured servitude that you’re trying to pass off as a kind of “soft slavery.” I’m talking about Exodus 21 and Leviticus 25. Female Hebrews could be sold by their fathers and enslaved for life (Exodus 21:7-11), but under some conditions.
Male Hebrews could sell themselves into slavery for a six year period to eliminate their debts, after this period they might go free. Evangelical Christians, especially those who subscribe to Biblical inerrancy, will commonly emphasize this debt bondage and try to minimise the other forms of race-based chattel slavery when attempting to excuse the Bible for endorsing slavery. This is the kind of “slavery” you’re referring to…. now on to the good stuff you’ve either not read or have purposely omitted.
Non-Hebrews, on the other hand, could (according to Leviticus 25:44) be subjected to slavery in exactly the way that it is usually understood. The slaves could be bought, sold and inherited when their owner died. This, by any standard, is race- or ethnicity-based, and must necessarily involve some sort of slave trade.
Hereditary slaves were born into slavery and there is no apparent way by which they could obtain their freedom.
So the Bible endorses various types of slavery, though biblical literalists only want to talk about one version and claim that it wasn’t really so bad.
As for forcing people to do stuff, I mostly agree with you. Where it becomes an issue is when you (in the example you give of medical treatment) through either by legislation or other means, force others (including small children) from receiving life-saving treatments. In this day and age of medical science, this is inexcusable. Here in Ontario just last month we had a child die of treatable cancer because their parents insisted that Jesus would heal her. He did not, she died for no other reason that sheer ignorance and superstition. Other people are protesting the use of stem cells in organ generation, forcing the research to be decades behind where it should be. The affects me personally as some day I want to be able to have a stem cell kidney grown with my own cells rather than the transplant from someone else I now require. These religious zealots have waylaid scientific progress in many areas and it’s high time we got past the infancy of our species where people put more stock in imaginary beings than actual reality. If there is any hope for our species to survive the idiotic wars fought over who’s sky daddy is the only sky daddy, we have to give up such pointless and dangerous notions. Hopefully over time we will discard the demonstrably false and completely nonsensical creeds of our past. One generation of raising children not to be indoctrinated into their parents religion, and waiting for them to reach the age of reason before teaching them such nonsense would go a long way towards stopping the endless vicious cycle of ignorance and superstition.
I can’t disagree with a lot that you’ve cut and pasted here except the fact that unfortunately your foundation and research is unfinished. You just haven’t studied the Bible with someone who knows it well enough to prove it to you yet.
Hoping that Jesus is going to save your kid is crazy, completely non biblical and shows a complete lack of understanding of the Bible.
You say that religion stifles medical advancement. Let me give you a prime example of how unfounded that comment is.
I would emplore you to do some research on Englewood Hospital in NJ. They treat a lot of Jehovah’s Witnesses for lifesaving procedures with no blood due to their beliefs. It forces a maximum amount of concentration, ingenuity and care on the doctors part to perform a procedure without blood. Getting news of this, the army paid millions of dollars today have their front line emergency responders trained to treat and control the loss of blood as you cannot do a transfusion on the front line. Countless thousands of soldiers have benefitted from this heavily researched medical treatment.
Medicine now shows a dramatic reduction in post surgical recovery for those patients who do not receive blood vs those that do.
Also ask the 34,000 people in the uk who contracted hep c or aids from contaminated blood if they thought following the bible would have protected them from contracting these diseases.
I’m pretty sure the Founders did not expect your religious rights to determine what happens outside your church or your mind. There is no place for religion, anyone’s religion, in the public sphere. The Constitution gives you freedom of conscience; it doesn’t give you a right to impose your conscience on others.
The constitution does not recognize any religion, this law will be overturned for violating civil rights. Thank the founding fathers.
Cook needs to sign up for the job he likes. Clearly working at Apple, making computers and other devices that are to thin, have no ports, and seem to do less and less is not his strong suit. Maybe if he were to announce he is closing all Apple stores in that state in protest, there would be something to read here. This guy will leave Apple in less than 2 years, my prediction. Like his computers, he does less and less. He certainly does not lead…anything. But protests and coloured ribbons, he is good at that. Blah. And, no, I do NOT support what Indiana has done..the GOV of that state is one creepy looking dude, looks like he is made of plastic. Blah, squared. Apple is not God. Why does Apple media hang on every word, every rumour, every passing of digital gas from Apple? It is becoming perverse. And tedious.
“Why does a blog name ‘Cult of Mac’ report on the public pronouncements of the CEO of Apple?”
And yes,the shareholders of the most valuable company on the planet are clearly horrified by Cook’s inability to lead or care about the company.
Tim seems to be trying to gain more attention by his personal and political beliefs and he needs to refocus his energy on running Apple. If he wants to call someone political about this crap, he can do that, but he’s being paid by Apple to run Apple. He needs to focus on running Apple.
I personally think his job, media attention and industry accolades are going straight to his head.
On the other hand, Timmy would be 100% FOR a law that allowed him to discriminate against what he terms “homophobes.” Some people are so intolerant of the intolerant.
This is just utterly ridiculous.
You’re being sarcastic, right? No other way to explain it.
damn..the comments in this thread are exactly the reason why this bill is ridiculous. I just don’t, seriously don’t, see how anyone can truly say this isn’t a bigoted law. I believe the reason why is because some people, not all, still believe that being gay is a choice, and a wrong choice. I’m saddened by this bill….but I’m more saddened by the reasoning for it. America has been here before…I hope we quickly get out of this place again and come together. This can’t keep going this way. Tim Cook is brave to stand up and speak out. There need to be more leaders like him…no matter what these negative comments say here.
Is Tim Cook speaking up against China too? Their discrimination laws are far worse than Indiana’s.
Sure it is. Every day, young men and women are waking up and declaring, “Today I think I will join the most despised, oppressed, hated minority group in the history of Western civilization!” Really?
There is no such thing as religious freedom anymore. You can only practice as the government permits. Why? Many would like wipe out religion completely–well, unless it is Islam. What would be interesting is a conflict between the practice of Islam and gay rights. Which of the PC interests would win?
Yes, no more religious freedom anymore of the kind you’d like. No more burning witches, killing homosexuals (as proscribed in the Old Testament), no more slavery (again, as proscribed by your Bible), no more hunting down the non-believers and killing them. No more genital mutilation (at least in North America). No more conquests of other people, pillaging and raping and keeping the virgins for yourselves. No.. the world has progressed enough to the point where we don’t need nonsensical outdated ancient texts which proclaim hate, bigotry, and ignorance as the standard by which to live. When it comes to gay rights, you might want to ask yourself seriously (if you sincerely believe in such nonsense) “What would Jesus do?” Would he be against gay rights or for gay rights? Would he be for equality for all or against… think about it. The ability of one group of people to mandate that another group of people can’t have the same rights should strike even the youngest child as unfair. In Canada, we figured that out a decade ago and everyone gets along with everyone else.
I’m surprised you forgot to mention the atheist non freedom’s anymore. No more atheists like Stalin killing 20 million, or Mao killing another 15 million or Pol Pot killing 3 million. Gosh, I think that dwarfs all killing for religion by a huge amount. No, like every liberal, you want no other views than your own to be in existence. Or, well, “you can practice in your home and as long as you aren’t serious about it.” Do you think gay people should HAVE to serve people they know advocate against gay rights??
But, actually, I applaud your honesty. You do want religion out of existence.
You sound like a Catholic. Which is the same as being a papist, and the “pope” is the true Antichrist. Were it that I could prevent you from coming into my restaurant.
Were those people killing in the name of atheism? Or did they simply happen to be atheists? The fact is they were killing in the name of totalitarian ideologies which is exactly what religions tend to be, with few exceptions. Atheism is simply the rejection of the belief in god(s) and nothing more. There is no ideology to get behind, no rules, no holy books, no prophets, no leaders, etc. The fact that the people you list happened to not believe in god(s) has nothing to do with the fanatical and inhumane things that were done to people by them. Get your facts straight and realize that correlation does not necessarily equal causation. Example: Hitler and Stalin both had moustaches. Both Hitler and Stalin were very extremely evil men. Therefore, all men with moustaches are extremely evil men. Getting the picture yet? Contrast this with the absolutely conclusive fact that more evil has been done in the name of people acting on the supposed commands of their god(s) than by people who simply refuse to believe in something without good evidence. So enjoy your imaginary sky friend, by all means, but don’t cast aspersions on those of us who require a little bit more evidence, and a lot less gullibility when it comes to such questions. Equating atheism with totalitarian dictatorships is just sad…. so sad… and just plain ignorant.
Hey Bud, it proves that having no religion means absolutely nothing as far as stopping human cruelty. In fact, it proves that cruelty goes up in a society with no religion–and certainly, without any doubt, those were societies that intensely disliked religion and worked hard to get rid of it. You see, most people say all sorts of things, but they mainly dislike religion and want to get rid of it so they can do whatever they want. But, most of those things they want to do are against the basic make up of life–irregardless of religion–and they trigger a mechanism within themselves that has nothing to do with God. God doesn’t punish them, they do. For example, a person can believe free love is great all they want. But, you find a heap of broken people in its wake–having nothing to do with God.
Hitler intensely disliked religion and look what he did. And, it’s well documented that his plan, after the Jews, was to go after the Catholics, and then others. Sure, he used them at first to get to Jews. But, he hated religion, and like you, thought it stupid and a sign of weakness. I’m not saying you are like Hitler, only that he subscribed to the same view. The Nazi’s were very scientific in their plan of killing. So, “science” is no savior either. According to “science” and Darwin, we should be preventing all sorts of low intelligence people and people with deformities from mating.
You are most mistaken, my friend. The least religious societies and countries are the ones with the best standard of living, education, and less crime. Norway, Finland and Sweden come to mind. The ones that are most religious tend to have a worse standard of living, less education, and more crime. Please don’t take my word for it, look it up if you know how. As for disliking religion and wanting to get rid of it so that “they can do whatever they want…” I don’t know who fed you this tired and bogus line, but we live in a time and place where we CAN do what we want (within reason and within the bounds of the law) regardless of your silly belief system. In fact, we are a more moral society than your Bible would have us be. Try reading it. If you are all in for rape marriages, slavery, and general genocide as outlined in the Bible, by all means. The rest of us will be content with lawful living, coupled with science, reason, and logic. Good luck with that. As for Hitler, I don’t know what your source is other than some lying evangelical history revisionists, but Hitler was born a Catholic, lived as a Catholic and died a Catholic. Let the evil man speak for himself: “My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.”
-Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)
And as for Darwin, he proposed no such thing. You are woefully ignorant of even basic facts if you are arguing that social Darwinism or eugenics was something that Darwin either created or espoused. His theory of evolution by natural selection is fact, and it’s scientific merits are undisputed but by a few ignorant creationist proponents. Eugenics, which the Nazi’s practiced were a horrific misapplication of Darwin’s ideas to human societies, and something that Darwin would have abhorred. Please do your research before posting such fallacious nonsense.
Yeah, we’ve got a great society right now don’t we? The Hitler quote was 20 years almost from when he actually began his solution. His views changed considerably. That must a quote atheists trot out when needed. You’ve got to read on “Hitlers so called Cardinal and the docs connected with that. Nazis were well known to hate religion. In your other point, all I can say is the actions of Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot speak for themselves
“No, like every liberal, you want no other views than your own to be in existence.”
Me personally, I love the many views we have in society, even those I disagree with.
The only views any rational human wants out of existence are those that discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others. ANY religion, doctrine, law or belief that encourages that should be abolished.
In other words, all views that don’t agree with your idea of how the world should be. Do you really think you are that tricky or clever. News to you–it is obvious to everyone else.
Nope. JUST these views: “…those that discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others.”
Which, of course, always gets translated to any view that doesn’t agree with yours. We know the game.
Wow.
Honestly, you’re the only one playing a game. I stated my stance flat-out. You’re applying other discussions you’ve had with other people to my words. Quite delusional of you actually.
You’ll walk away from this saying, “just another liberal.” without any comprehension of the actual words I wrote.
I am sure you well know, unless you live in a cave that it has been translated to basically anything that disagrees with you view. Every week the limit is pushed further and further. You either have free speech, or you have people afraid to say what they believe. Your criteria can be applied to ANY view. In practical terms, it can’t be limited. So, again, what you want is not to hear any view which disagrees with what you think is right.
“it?” What is “it?” My view on non-discrimination and harm to others?
You are kinda going off the rails. Seriously. Try and focus.
So your view is to abolish my beliefs then?
Do your beliefs “discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others?”
My belief is in what the Bible clearly states. No more, no less.
And in your interpretation of what the bible CLEARLY states, do your beliefs “discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others?”
You are the one who said I wanted to abolish your beliefs, and what I want to abolish are views that “discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others.” So clearly you feel that your beliefs allow this.
Am I correct?
No my belief doesn’t allow this. You see, you miss the point.
my “interpretation” is just unambiguous clear English.
“Or do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom. And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean; you have been sanctified; you have been declared righteous in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.”
Now of course because you may not like what is written from God, you either choose not to believe or to state just how outdated it’s views are. Its the foundation of humanity. Now just because it doesn’t fit our lifestyles any more, we “marginalize and discriminate” against it and as a result cause harm to others.
Thankfully your ancestors took heed because if you parents were both men, you wouldn’t be posting right now.
If your belief doesn’t allow it WHY do you think I would want to abolish your belief? Remember you said it not me.
Or, are you saying your belief doesn’t allow homosexuality?
You see, you still don’t get it.
It’s not my religion that doesn’t allow it, it’s God.
Did you not read the post above?
Oh and to be super super clear, my belief is in God.
Annnnddd,,,, we’re done. I simply cannot have a rational, intellegent discussion with someone who does not think for themselves with their OWN mind. You rationalize your discrimination all you want. Me, I’m going to love and live in this world.
And I’ll leave you with this thought: you literally admitted that your beliefs “discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others”
Nothing Godlier than that, huh?
All I admitted was my belief in God.
You go ahead and put your liberal words in my mouth if it makes you feel any better.
Let me know when your quest to destroy religion is gaining traction. I’ll have to find a safe place in the mountains away from your “harm”
Me: “The only views any rational human wants out of existence are those that discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others. ANY religion, doctrine, law or belief that encourages that should be abolished.”
You: “So your view is to abolish my beliefs then?”
Tell me again how I put my “liberal” words in your mouth. Last time I checked, lying was a sin.
Eh?
Do you not remember posting this?
YOU : “And I’ll leave you with this thought: you literally admitted that your beliefs “discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others””
Yep you know your scriptures, lying is a sin. You’ve just got to keep studying to get the rest of it in there.
So, this has been an interesting debate. I wish you health and happiness. Same as I do EVERYONE else.
And for the record, any TRUE Christian will never say they hate a homosexual, they just don’t agree with what they do. It’s all in the actions my friend, not in the person.
I DID say that. In reference to THIS:
Me: “The only views any rational human wants out of existence are those that discriminate, marginalize and cause harm to others. ANY religion, doctrine, law or belief that encourages that should be abolished.”
You: “So your view is to abolish my beliefs then?”
Anyway… I wish you health and happiness as well. Thanks for keeping it civil. NIght.
Anytime.
Goodnight.
Either way… YOU are still welcome in my house. I wonder if I would be welcome in yours.
There is no more god than there is Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. What do we say about adults who believe in Santa Claus?
Seriously? What century are you living in?
How about you focus on fixing apple’s software which blows since Jobs died?
I just found out my spell-checker wasn’t working in Pages, after sending out about 20 Resumes and cover letters. How about fixing that?
#racematters
How bout learning to proofread?
I know how to proofread. I also know that I sometimes overlook misspellings when I proofread. Spell check is a good backup to that, it’s supposed to work, and it’s something I paid for so it’s not unreasonable to expect it to work.
Fun fact: “MacBook” gets flagged as misspelled when I type it in my MacBook. So Apple’s spell check doesn’t even get it’s own name right.
This, this my friend is a problem.
Right, because the 40 seconds it took him to send those two tweets obviously not only prevented him from doing his job, but completely shut down the software development team.
My guess? Yes, it sure seems like it.
First off, I have a very strong “faith perspective”. My “faith perspective” is rooted in Christianity. That said, no one is going to offend me or my personal relationship with God, by being gay, black, homophobic, fat, short and on and on. Why is this? My faith, and choice to believe and live my life, is very personal one to one relationship with “God”. My belief is in no way threatened because someone else believe differently. I’m not going to lash out against someone for saying hateful things against my beliefs, because that would mean, that name calling is some how going to weaken my faith that my God is so weak that I have to protect him by bullying/attacking others because they don’t have the same “Faith Perspective” . The God I believe in doesn’t require defending. If you view of God is omnipotent and all powerful, than why would you need to defend him or her? Do people truly believe that by beating down someone for having different believes is going to bring them closer to there way of thinking? I don’t have to quote and bang my Bible to get people to want to know more about my faith. I get them to inquire about it in time based on my actions. Not the actions of how many times I go to church or how much money I give to charity or by getting on Facebook and telling everyone they are going to hell if they don’t have the same “faith perspective” I have. I live my life with love and respect for others even if they don’t agree with me. Am I always successful at this? No, but I continue to strive to be better person.
Let’s think about it logically. How will a business owner know if you are homosexual?
They won’t. As a gay man, I support this. I don’t want the federal government to have anything to with my small business. If I want to be a bigot and only allow gay people into my store, that’s my prerogative. And my business will fail.
Let’s let the free-market decide who stays and who dies.
But what if the business owner somehow did know you were gay? And he refused to, say, serve you in a restaurant on the basis of his religious objections? Would you just quietly move on to the next restaurant?
I don’t like the scenario you mention any better than you, but yes the best thing to do is move along and no longer patronize that establishment. Or organize a boycott and see if you can force them out of business or make them change their rules.
When you think about Freedom and passing laws to force people to be served you have to think about it as a two-way street. What if a gay man opens a restaurant and the Westboro Baptist Church comes in to be served with their disgusting anti-gay message boards and talking in an offensive manor towards gay people? Should he be forced to seat them and get them coffee?
My answer here is the same as above… no private business should ever be forced to serve anyone.
Apple should decline to ship any products to Indiana, and to any other state that passes similar legislation. The Supreme Court really opened up a can of worms with Hobby Lobby. It won’t be long before people are free not to hire blacks or women or Muslims or Jews because of their religious objections.
There are two types of rights being discussed here: Personal rights and Religious rights. Both are important. However Personal Rights always trump Religious rights. In other words, you’re welcome to worship anything you want as long as it doesn’t interfere with someone else Personal rights. If you belong to a religion that is critical of homosexuality, that’s your choice, but your religion does not entitle you to act in ways that treat homosexuals like second-class citizens (e.g,, not allowing them to purchase things from your store). To do so interfere with their Personal rights.
That’s why the Indiana law is fundamentally wrong.
You’re close, but there is no such thing as a “right” to buy something from a private store or individual. Freedom is a two-way street and unfortunately that means people (and businesses) are free to make bad decisions. The good thing is that the market will naturally either force them to change or go out of business. No business should ever be forced to sell to anyone, and in return no customer should ever be force to buy from any business.
Take Apple as an example, They routinely deny people and businesses the ability to publish their apps in the app store. I think this is a good thing because it keeps out porn and other bad things, but if we pass laws forcing businesses to serve everyone equal Apple would then be forced to publish porn, anti-gay apps, etc…
I don’t like gays and they’re free to not like me. It’s not the job of government or interfering CEO’s to tell me how to live my life.
