Apple Watch spotted in the wild turns skeptic into true believer

I’ll admit it: I don’t think I want an Apple Watch. I don’t need another screen to notify me about what’s happening on another screen.

That’s what I think now. But I’m not arrogant enough to believe Apple might not prove me wrong. They’ve certainly proven me wrong before.

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you think the Apple Watch isn’t something you want, but you’re worried that the second you see one, you’ll want one. You’re right to be worried. Apple Watches are starting to be spotted in the wild. And the people who see them are immediately turning into believers.

Over at VentureBeat, tech journalist Mark Sullivan talks about his experience seeing an Apple employee on the San Francisco Muni using his Apple Watch:

I saw a text reminder on the screen, and then, briefly, a map. It appeared that the guy had been using the Watch for some time and was pretty used to it. The product is supposed to go on sale in April, but Apple gave Watches to a number of its employees to gather feedback and fix bugs…

One thing that disturbed me slightly about the device?

Like other blockbuster Apple products, when you see it, something somewhere in the corner of your mind clicks on, and then you realize: You want one.

This is my biggest concern. I’m going to become a true believer literally the second I lay my eyes on one. And something tells me, if that’s true, I won’t be alone. If there’s one thing Apple’s good at, it’s creating products that turns skeptics into believers.

We’ll know in April.

Sure I would love to have one because it’s beautiful. I may even want one but that doesn’t mean I’m actually going to USE it. And Apple has a history of of launching new products that don’t seem polished when the 2.0 version comes out.

The original iPhone didn’t have 3G and when the 3G came out and Apple lowered the price I was kicking myself for buying a 1.0. When the original iPad came out, it was slow and had one core. When the iPad 2 came out it was twice as fast and had a dual core processor.

    I’ll wait until iWatch 2.

      APPLE watch 2 ;)

I think that the 1st gen Apple Watch is a solid product. There aren’t really any features that it is lacking. Sure it would be better with a longer lasting battery than what’s been reported, built-in GPS, and a FaceTime camera, but each of those will come with time. Looking at how small the it is and how packed the internals are, this is a really innovative device and I can’t wait to get one in April.

A FaceTime camera will not make it better. A camera on your wrist is dumb. No one wants to make video calls on their watch with a tiny screen and tinier speaker. That’s just dumb.

How can you say that “There aren’t really any features that it is lacking”. then in the VERY next sentence list things that is lacking? Gotta love fanboys.

    • Weelious_225 says:

Exactly. I feel that just like with the iPhone and the iPad, the Apple Watch will be an amazing product, but the second version will somehow manage to blow it away and make everyone who bought the first one kick themselves.

      • ShitIconSays says:

Or you could just resell it for 75% of the cost and use the remainder to buy apple watch 2, since Apple products all hold value so well.

      • Weelious_225 says:

I may buy the first version but I’m still undecided. Most Apple products don’t truly shine until you see on in real life so I’m reserving my judgement.

    • Kelly Jepsen says:

Logic: Why buy any product ever, when a better one is always just around the corner?

I’m already in love with the idea of not having to drag my phone out of my pocket all the time. It sounds like a trivial thing, and it’s certainly a first world problem, but I’m just imagining being at the gym and not even having to keep my phone in my pocket because my wireless Beats headphones will deliver the music while my watch will let me skip tracks and look at my fitness apps. Really looking forward to leaving my phone in my gym bag.

Trying to steel my mindset into waiting for version 2… I hope I last.

  4. Undivided says:

No way will I fall for any first gen releases from Apple. Half the features that should have been released with the 1st gen will be released on the 2nd gen. The 3rd Gen is where the sweet spot will be. I’ll wait till then.

  5. Now this is what I cal true journalism. Amazing!

  6. earthlingdave says:

I get the arguments about waiting for version 2, but with a product like this I wonder if they’ll change their release cycle. They’re positioning it as a luxury product. Do you think there’ll be an update every year?

    • NoNonsense74 says:

SO, as everybody knows, no one knows for sure…but, my educated guess is, its possible. I would guess the first two years may see software upgrades more so (watch kit) and possible processor upgrades for speed. But It has potential to receive sensor upgrades on regular basis and of course the slimmer profile that is always welcome…

Before iPad came out, I mumbled a lot of negativity on blogs with how useless it would be without a USB port and an OS that makes it look like a large iPhone. Even after it was released, I continued to have negative opinion … till one day, I wen to apple store to check it out. I fell in love with it immediately. i could envision where it would fit perfectly and what made it so much better than iPhone for certain tasks. I am sure, for many people, it is similar if not the same. Once you check it out, I am sure, you will be tempted to buy it. You might resist for a duration surely…but tech geeks can only resist the beautiful product for so long. I have always been crazy for watches since my child hood. casio calculator watch was just out of the world …during those days. Today, I wear watch on regular basis. But most of the watches can only do so much. So this for me, will be no brainer especially when you are fully in apple eco system. Very excited…can’t wait. Mind you, I am not saying this is better than that or anything…so (before you bash me android lovers), please note.. all I am saying is, for my situation, this is perfect fit ! color screen, apps, link with iPhone, its just perfect !
