Christian Bale says he’s not the Steve Jobs we deserve.

The actor was tapped to star as the iconic Apple CEO, but has reportedly turned down the part in Sony’s upcoming biopic that is also rumored to star Seth Rogen as Woz, with sources saying he doesn’t think he’s fit for the part.

Sources at the Hollywood Reporter say “after much deliberation and conflicting feelings” Bale decided to withdraw from the project once he came to the conclusion that “he was not right for the part.”

The script, which was written by Aaron Sorkin, is divided into three acts that show Steve Jobs backstage preparing for the presentations of three major Apple products that cemented his status as one of tech’s most innovative pioneers. Sorkin had high praise for Bale donning Steve’s black turtleneck, saying he was going to “crush it” and that he didn’t even have to audition for the part.

Danny Boyle has signed on to direct after David Fincher dropped out earlier this year. Boyle is supposed to drop by Hollywood this week to meet with actors and actresses for movie, but no parts have been officially offered.

It’s unclear how Bale dropping out will effect the project that was scheduled to start shooting this winter. Bale is the second high-profile actor to drop from the project after Leonardo DiCaprio bowed out earlier this year.

I don’t believe for a second it’s because he feels he’s not worthy, it’s all about the money he was offered I’d guess but also assuming but that sounds like a cop-out for some other reason not being publicly announced.

Naw, he just doesn’t look the part at all. Ashton looks the part much better, Ashton just got stuck with a crappy script, producer/director and Ashton isn’t that great of an actor (at least from the other things he’s done.) I haven’t seen the Ashton version yet, only the trailers.

        ashton is a shitty actor.

I’ll see your shitty and raise you a SHITTY, in caps. Caps are mandatory in this case. Oof. I finally watched his Jobs movie and… I’ll say it again: Oof. The dialogue was bad, but the acting was bad enough to help me forget how bad the dialogue was.

I think they could have made him into a convincing younger Steve……..Do you not think ? Ashton wasn’t a terrible looking Jobs but he is a crappy actor.

The article says “he doesn’t think he’s fit for the part” which is completely different than not being worthy. Not being worthy is a self confidence issue. Not being fit for the part could mean a lot of different things. It could mean Bale didn’t think he could genuinely act like Steve Jobs.

I don’t know if Bale is a method actor or not ala Johnny Depp or Dustin Hoffman. A method actor, if you didn’t know, literally acts the part (even off screen so they don’t have to worry about getting back into character when the camera rolls). If Bale is in fact, a method actor, then the grueling fruitarian diet, and lack of personal hygiene could have definitely played a part in Bale’s decision not to take the part.

I don’t remember who it was, but there was another actor who tried to portray Jobs and he took up his fruitarian diet and wound up getting sick.

“Christian Bale says he’s not the Steve Jobs we deserve, turns down role”

Translation: he’s not getting the money he thinks he deserves (of which there could never be enough), and he didn’t get much, if any, creative control.

I couldn’t be happier about this average-to-good (not great) actor who thinks he’s Laurence Olivier turning down the role. Now Sorkin can turn his attention to yet another predictable British, Australian or New Zealand actor. Anyone but an American, right Aaron? Actually, I like to see Jesse Eisenberg audition.

Just get Noah Wyle and call it a day!

  4. John says:

lol, this movie is never getting made.

  5. Steve_Sava says:

How many Steve Jobs movies do you need? that is the reason, also would you want to be compared to a hack called Ashton? no money in the world ..

“How many Steve Jobs movies do you need?” I, for one, would like to see several, told from different perspectives and by different people… maybe even by the original Macintosh Team. The whole story of Apple, Steve Jobs & Wozniak, not to mention the subculture that brought about this and other great technology is very interesting, at least to me. If you like Abraham Lincoln (or probably Batman or Spiderman in your case), how many movies do you wish to see, or books to read? Just one?

But here’s an idea: if you’re not interested in another movie about Steve Jobs… don’t go.

      • Steve_Sava says:

if you are looking for that perspective.. just watch the movie : Pirates of Silicon Bay.. done..

issue here is directors and actors want millions plus at the end of the day you will be compared to Ashton, not to mention if the movie bombs then your life as you know it is done too.

  8. Windy Colon says:

Apparently Bale must have found out about Seth Rogen being cast as Steve Wozniak… I’m sure Seth will put in a good word for James Franco to fill in….

  9. 2oh1 says:

Part of the challenge of casting anyone in the role of Steve Jobs is going to be finding a voice that’s at least a little bit similar. Steve Jobs had a thin high pitched voice. An actor with a deep or gravely voice playing that role will sound silly. I’d rather see an unknown actor have that role.

  10. DBG says:

Bring Andrew Garfield to play Jobs

  11. DBG says:

Maybe he heard cultcast making fun of him doing Jobs movie with Batman voice and he bailed out!

  12. josephsinger says:

Ooooh, that’s so punny Christian Bale bails. Musta stayed up all night thinking of that one.

  13. JCat_NY says:

Dammit! I was so hoping this wasn’t going to happen. I just lost interest in this movie unless they can find someone who can top CB.

  14. Stanisław Olszak says:

    Just please cast Noah Wyle.
