iOS 7 is coming out this fall, but before you get really excited about getting to enjoy the simplicity of Jony Ive’s new UI, you better make sure Apple is going to actually support your iDevice.

Apple posted the following chart on its website to let customers know which iOS devices will be supported for iOS 7. If you’ve got an iPhone 3GS or older, you’re out of luck. The original iPad also won’t be supported either, but other than that, it looks like all other devices are going to be able to get in on the fun.

That image seems to only be showing the current model iPod touch, not the 4th gen. which was still being sold new only a few weeks ago. That kind of sucks, the refurbs of the 4th gen. look like a good deal but if they’re now “stuck” on iOS 6, that makes me much less inclined to get one. BTW, while the 4th gen. was released after the iPhone 4 (which is on the supported list) and they share the same processor specs, the touch has half the RAM compared to the iPhone 4.

I am waiting for the announcement of what will be left off of the older devices.

Airdrop only works on the new devices though.

I’m pretty pissed that Airdrop only works on iPhone 5+

Because the older ones don’t have a chipset that supports Wi-Fi Direct.

And the RAM would be why it doesn’t get iOS 7. 256MB doesn’t seem like nearly enough to run all of this.
