LAS VEGAS, CES 2013 – The Consumer Electronic Show is winding down. Friday is the last day. There are so many weird and wacky wonderful things, it’s worth another gallery.
Elvis — an icon of Las Vegas — is posing for pictures and representing the United States Post Office, posing next to his commemorative stamp. He has the snarl down.
Sonicview’s dancing birds were crazy. I closed my eyes and was whisked back in time to the Tiki Lounge at Disneyland.
The MuRata boy is a Bluetooth bike-riding robot who moves to commands from a wireless remote-control magic stick.
The case maker Speck has a bingo game along with free beer. You have to take pictures of various things around their booth to complete a row on your bingo card. A completed row receives an iPhone case.
Supertooth, makers of the Disco 2 stereo speaker, had sexy half-naked dancers from Fantasy, a strip club at the Luxor. Hoards of sweaty men are constantly jostling each other to catch a peep.
Built, the fashionable makers of Neoprene bags, totes and cases, is passing out free coffee cup cozies. I’ve never heard of such a thing before. It fits any cup and has a handle.
The hip speaker and headphone maker, Boom, has live graffiti artists Mr. Device and Kovart from San Diego making art. They were on a scaffold painting but were nice enough to pause so I could take a picture.
FitBit makes a wireless wristband to track activity. To demonstrate, they have two girls who are walking 25,000 steps a day on treadmills. Talk about fit.
American Express brought in a food truck for the occasion with gourmet cupcakes and flavored popcorn. You just have to play a memory game first. There’s always a catch with these promotions.
Polk Audio has singer Mike Ruocco performing in a soundproof booth. You have to wear their $349 Ultra Focus 8000 headphones to hear him perform. Very cool idea. And as the sales reps pointed out to me, they could still hear and talk to prospective buyers.
Woot, the daily online bargain service, is flinging shreiking flying monkeys to the crowd.
PriceGrabbers, the smart shopping App, is passing out flashing green lanyards. The line is practically out the door and everyone here at the show seems to have one.
TYLT has ladies dressed in tight green catsuits from head to toe showing off their battery-charging backpacks.
Qualcomm hired an actual cafe, Ryan Brothers from San Diego, to cater coffee drinks at their booth.
While hanging out at the coffee bar, I ran into entertainer Sir Gaga (Gary Fisher) again. His outfit was so creative that I had to feature him again. Viva Las Vegas!
This blonde DJ with the black cross was playing music at the Hyperdrive booth. They make USB drives for the iPad.
Hyperdrive also had a live art installation featuring painted nude ladies. This booth also attracted a fair number of sweaty men.
BodyGlove has an inflatable hand game. Take a picture around Vegas with the hand, post it on Facebook and the most creative one wins a gift bag.
Tosy, the makers of mRobo ultra Bass robots, has a fantastic robot dancing show synchronized to music. Last year their spokesperson was Justin Beiber. This year it is Derek Hough, a three-time winner from Dancing With The Stars. Their budget must have been much smaller this year.
Hapifork is giving an eating demonstration with their $99 Bluetooth fork. Eat slower with less bites or you might get a shock.
Muse, a brain-sensing headband, works with an app to monitor your brainwaves and concentration. It would be great for kids with ADD.
Ispot2 makes a pulse meter and has an espresso bar at their booth. I guess they want the caffeine to boost showgoer’s pulses. The barista is making more than 800 coffee drinks in one day, so her wrist is in pain.
Necomimi has crazy Brainwave cat ears that are used in Korean classrooms to monitor students attentiveness. Your state of mind controls the ears’ movements. If a kid loses concentration, the ears flop down. I think this is a look that only kids can pull off.
Ecovacs is demonstrating the Winbot 7, a window cleaning robot available in May for $399.
