Many folks building a computer setup love a good trick for compartmentalizing a bit — essentially, any way they can neaten up the space in a way that enhances productivity. That could include something we don’t see often enough in setups: multi-use keyboard trays. Today’s Mac Studio user proudly displays a wooden one for Magic Keyboard mini and Magic Trackpad 2. And you can find many others out there, like the popular Twelve South MagicBridge.

Trays like that give your keyboard and trackpad — or/or mouse, in some cases — one modular place to live, and you can easily move the pair or trio around as one unit or hold it in your lap.

Twelve South MagicBridge and other keyboard and trackpad trays streamline setups

Redditor Gehwartzen showcased the cool tray in a setup post entitled, “A little bit of color.” The post isn’t much regarding a powerhouse setup. You can glimpse in a corner of the photo there’s a Mac Studio, but that’s it. The post’s whole focus is on the keyboard and trackpad tray, which happens to be a walnut wood model Gehwartzen bought on Etsy.

Gehwartzen’s wood tray holds a Magic Keyboard mini in a colorful skin (which adds a fun factor and keeps your own skin’s oils and other gunk off the keyboard), plus a Magic Trackpad 2. The tray angles subtly up and away from the hands for typing and provides a bit of space as a wrist rest. That’s cool. And you can find a bunch of similar ones on Etsy (see one below in the gear list).

Another example of a tray that’s more widely available commercially would be the Twelve South MagicBridge. It handles extended keyboard and a trackpad. If you want a similar one for a mini keyboard and trackpad, you could try this.

And another cool one comes from a company called Momagen. It’s a handsome wooden tray that puts your Magic Keyboard across the top and your Magic Keyboard just below, either centered for a mini or off-center for an extended keyboard (so that the trackpad is centered below the part of the keyboard you use most). It’s kind of like a stylized and customized version of a MacBook or iPad folio’s Magic Keyboard-and-Magic Trackpad setup.
