Blake Crouch, who wrote the bestselling novel Dark Matter that was adapted into a hit Apple TV+ series, said this week he’s open to the idea of making season 2.

The sci-fi thriller’s season one finale premiered Wednesday.

Cross your fingers for Dark Matter season 2

Dark Matter started as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade and in May became a solid hit for Apple TV+. It has drawn large audiences its entire run, according to analysts.

The season finale that hit Apple’s streaming service this week could be the show finale — it covers the entire contents of Blake Crouch’s book. But fans of the series are undoubtedly hoping for more. As one fan said, “Dark Matter finale was a fabulous ending to a dark, gripping, emotional, mind-bending series. A satisfying ending if that’s all we get, but boy there were some tantalizing end scenes that hinted at the many other stories which could be told.”

Variety asked the author about the chances for season 2, and he said, “It’s hard to do a whole first season with these characters and not think about what could come next. But I think we’re trying to just enjoy this moment right now.”

Jennifer Connelly, one of the stars of the Apple TV+ series, said she’s receptive to the idea of Dark Matter season 2. “I don’t know if they’ve made any decisions about that, but I had a great time working on it, and would be happy to be involved,” she told Variety.

A sci-fi thriller on Apple TV+

Dark Matter stars Joel Edgerton as well as Jennifer Connelly. For those who haven’t read the book, Apple’s (spoiler-filled) description of its series says:

Dark Matter is a story about the road not taken. The series follows Jason Dessen (played by Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.”

The series premiered May 8, and all nine episodes are available now on Apple TV+. Watching it plus many other series or films comes with a subscription to Apple TV+. The service is $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.

And Apple’s streaming video service also includes much more, of course. There’s a library of drama, comedies, musicals, children’s shows, nature documentaries, etc.
