Some people don’t amp up the sound in their computer setups simply because they lack room for the speakers. So they just use their computer or monitor speakers. But what if somebody made tiny but powerful speakers that could fit almost anywhere? Somebody did — Gallo Acoustics Micro Speakers. And today’s Mac Studio setup uses them for rich sound.

Gallo Acoustics Micro Speakers pack a punch in Mac Studio setup
Redditor Appropriate_Fee2531 (“AF”) showcased the visually pleasing setup in a post entitled, “Clean Mac + PC Setup.” AF uses an M1 Max Mac Studio and a custom gaming PC to drive a pair of displays.
We covered the displays — particularly the Dough Spectrum One 4K Gaming Display we’d never seen in setups before — on Wednesday. On Friday we look at AF’s set of small Gallo Micro Speakers, another first-timer in our setups coverage even though they first came out more than two decades ago (and of course have been updated many times).
“How’s the sound quality?” asked a commenter.
“Not exactly a hifi setup, but no complaints,” AF replied, somewhat underselling the premium metal sound orbs.
Gallo micro: ‘the original high-end small speaker’
Gallo Acoustics calls its Micro loudspeaker the longtime “audiophile’s choice in the ‘compact’ speaker category, whether for two-channel music, home cinema or multi-room audio. A 4-inch all-metal sphere capable of producing a large sound stage and pinpoint imaging, delivered in a beautifully-compact, timeless form factor.”
So each speaker is just 4-inches in diameter, housing a 3-inch dynamic driver, and made of metal in a choice of 11 colors and a handful of finishes. AF’s pair of them is the matte white option. The speakers can fit in almost anywhere, on a desk or bookshelf, mounted on a stand or even inserted in the ceiling. You can add a Gallo Acoustics TR-3D subwoofer to fill out the low end, too.
And Gallo makes a case for the speaker’s shape, as well:
“By choosing a sphere, the strongest possible shape, we have eliminated internal resonance and external diffraction, the two main causes of loudspeaker distortion,” it said. “Our patented S2 fill technology enhances low frequencies that go way beyond conventional satellite speakers.”
Speaker specs:
- Frequency response on wall, ceiling or floor stand: 100Hz to 18kHz
- Frequency response on tabletop: 120Hz to 18kHz
- Sensitivity: 89 dB/w 2.8v (1m)
- Nominal impedance: 8 Ohms
- Power handling: 100 watts
- Driver: 3-inch full range
- Crossover: none
- Dimensions :4-inch sphere
- Weight: 795 grams / 28 ounces
- Cone material: mical polypropylene compound
- Enclosure material: steel
- 5-year parts and labor warranty
And if you like the images showing on the displays, note that it’s dynamic wallpaper available in macOS Big Sur.
“I found a copy of the wallpaper online and did some editing to make it flow across monitors,” AF said. “No longer dynamic as a result sadly but I prefer the flow.”
