Jake Gyllenhaal’s character wants people to believe he “did not kill her,” as he forcefully states a full dozen times in the space of about 2 minutes in the first full trailer for Presumed Innocent, a drama series coming soon to Apple TV+.

So yeah, he totally killed her. Isn’t that what movie stars playing jilted stalkers do? Or maybe not. It’s a guessing game.

Gyllenhaal and multi-Emmy Award winners David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams bring the eight-part remake to Apple TV+ June 12.

‘I did not kill her’ is Gyllenhaal character’s mantra in drama series trailer for Presumed Innocent

Gyllenhaal not only stars in Presumed Innocent, he executive produces the series alongside hitmakers Kelley and Abrams, among others. This first full trailer, which follows up on a previous short teaser, reveals what looks to be a taut drama that keeps you guessing as to whether, well, you know. Did he kill her? Did he not?

Clocking in at 2 minutes and change, the trailer makes a mantra of the sentence, “I did not kill her.” Gyllenhaal’s character, Rusty Sabich, says it over and over again and it appears in text on the screen several times. At the end, the series title fritzes between “Presumed Innocent” and “Presumed Guilty.”

Sabitch is a prosecutor who looks guilty as hell in the slaying of a female colleague with whom he carried on a fiery affair. His fingerprints are in her bedroom. His desperate-stalker texts are on her phone. And his world-weary DA boss, played by Peter Sarsgaard, fears the worst. Unsurprisingly, Sabich’s wife isn’t pleased.

The story, based on a legal-thriller novel by Scott Turow, saw a film version made in 1990 starring Harrison Ford as Sabich.

So here’s the streamers description:

Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow, the gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when one of its own is suspected of a crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.

And in addition to Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard, the drama series’ cast includes Renate Reinsve, Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah and Kingston Rumi Southwick.
