Foundation season three production reportedly will resume in early March, after problems with the Apple TV+ sci-fi epic were ironed out.
Production for the popular series was put on hold in February due to cost-cutting efforts.
Foundation season 3 production set to resume
Foundation tells the story of a band of exiles struggling to save humanity during and after the fall of a Galactic Empire. It’s based on Isaac Asimov’s groundbreaking novels from the 1940s and 1950s. Season two, which aired in fall 2023, was more popular than almost everything else on any streaming service.
Production on Foundation season three originally began in spring 2023 before being halted by the writers/actors strike last year. About a third of the season has supposedly already been filmed.
The process was scheduled to begin again this month, but everyone was sent home as producers looked for ways to trim the budget.
But now there’s word that Foundation season 3 filming will resume March 6, according to Deadline.
The major change that came to light appears to be removing one of the sci-fi series’ creators from the director’s chair. As Deadline reports:
“Series’ co-developer/executive producer/showrunner David S. Goyer, who directed one episode in Season 1 and two in Season 2, will complete his outstanding writing and directing services and will remain involved as an executive producer but will not be directing further Season 3 episodes as previously planned.”
A release date for new episodes on Apple TV+ is anyone’s guess, but fall 2024 is possible with the halt in production being so short.
The first two seasons are available now on Apple’s streaming service.
Watching the epic sci-fi series comes with a subscription to Apple TV+. The service costs $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.
Apple’s streaming video service also includes much more, of course. There are dramas, comedies, sports, children’s shows, nature documentaries, etc.
