If you’re ready to put your MacBook in clamshell mode on a vertical stand, Twelve South rolled out a nice one for you Tuesday — BookArc Flex.

The minimalist stand lets you run your closed laptop like a desktop — just plug in your external display and fire up a keyboard and mouse — while saving loads of space on your desk for other gear. And you can get it with chrome, matte-black or matte-white finishes.

Twelve South BookArc Flex vertical laptop stand

Twelve South, maker of the popular BookArc stand and lots of other nifty stands, charges, cases and other accessories, said BookArc Flex is a stylish new vertical MacBook stand made of metal.

It maximizes desk space by holding your MacBook vertically while connected to a monitor, so you can add a keyboard and mouse to turn your powerful Apple laptop into a desktop computer (but one that you can easily take with you when you go). See a list of compatible MacBooks below.

Saving space like that is especially useful for anyone with a small desk or table where they use their MacBook a lot. You can even fit the stand and laptop behind a monitor. And of course having a full computer setup rather than just a laptop is a healthier way to go, ergonomically, so you can maintain good posture.

A cool aspect of the stand is that your laptop’s weight draws the stand’s supporting arcs together, cradling your MacBook (or any laptop up to 1-inch thick with up to a 16-inch screen). Twelve South says most laptops will fit without the need of any inserts or adjustments.

And when you take your MacBook on the go, it’s a simple as unplugging it and lifting it out of the stand.

Twelve South pointed out the simple design and nearly universal fit of BookArc Flex makes it more-or-less future-proof. The laptop you have now and the ones you get in the future will probably fit in it.
