Mac gamers can soon enjoy Stray. Players become a cat wandering through a cyberpunk city in this very popular and award winning title. It’ll debut for macOS in only a few weeks.

The macOS release is well timed to fit with Apple’s new push for Mac gaming.

Players happily adopt Stray

So many games are simply about running and gunning. That’s not Stray at all. The official description says:

“Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find their way home.”

Players need to be stealthy, nimble, silly and sometimes as annoying as possible to overcome the droids and other unforeseen threats that inhabit the city. The feline isn’t completely alone, though. B-12, a small flying drone, joins his quest to escape.

The game is very atmospheric. Players get a cat’s eye view of neon-lit alleys and the murky environments of the decaying metropolis.

Its lengthy list of awards includes Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards, plus Most Innovative Gameplay at the Steam Awards.

The Mac version of Stray developed by BlueTwelve Studio launches December 5. Pricing wasn’t announced, but it’s $29.99 on other platforms.

Mac can be part of a serious gaming rig

Apple emphasized gaming during the recent introduction of the M3 processor and new Macs that run it. It’s part of the company putting a greater emphasis on games for its laptops and desktops than it has in the past.

The developers of Stray pointed out that macOS offers MetalFX Upscaling to improve graphics performance in games, including theirs. And the M3 family offers hardware-accelerated ray tracing and hardware-accelerated mesh shading to improve the look of high-end games.

Stray will deliver a smooth and immersive gaming experience across the entire Mac lineup with Apple silicon,” promises Annapurna Interactive. The game does not support Intel-based Macs.

It is also available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox and PC via Steam.
