Mac users are very satisfied with their computer. Even more so than last year, according to a survey of users of all types of desktops, laptops and tablets.

Apple computers beat Windows PCs from most rivals in user satisfaction. In fact, there’s only one company that can rival Apple.

Mac users get a feeling of satisfaction

Critics love to decry the “Apple tax” and complain that Macs cost too much. If there was real justification for these comments, users of macOS devices would be making them. But in reality people are more happy with their Mac than the users of almost every other type of computer.

That’s according to data from the 2022-2023 American Customer Satisfaction Index, which reports that Apple is tops in user satisfaction for personal computers with a score of ACSI score of 83 out of 100.

But the Mac-maker has strong competition. “Apple continues to lead across much of the PC user experience but gets caught in a tie with Samsung for the top ACSI score,” reports the consumer-survey firm in its latest report.

Dell and HP both earned scores of 81, while Acer, Asus and Lenovo all got 78, a full 5 points behind Apple.

In the 2021-2022 survey, Apple was the winner with a score of 82.

People love their desktops

The rankings cover all types of computers — macOS, Windows, etc. — but not smartphones. And the type that users are most happy with are desktops.

“Satisfaction is highest among users of desktop computers (84), followed by laptops (80) and tablets (76),” reports ACSI.

In 2023, people are a lot more satisfied with their desktops than they were in 2022, with the score going from 80 last year to 84 this year. And laptop satisfaction also increased, going from 79 to 80.

But tablets are struggling, with satisfaction declining from 79 to 76. The ACSI results don’t break out these results by computer-maker, so there’s no way to know if users are less happy with iPad or Windows tablets.
