Apple added two tiers to iCloud+ online storage, allowing Mac and iPhone users to keep as much as 12 terabytes of data on the service. That’s six times as much as before.
The storage plans also come with additional features, many of which are focused on privacy.
iCloud+ adds 6TB and 12TB storage options
Apple gives all its customers 5GB of iCloud online storage for free, giving users a place to store a modest number of images or other files. These is accessible anywhere there’s internet access via Apple’s Files application or a web app. Those who want more capacity can subscribe to iCloud+.
Previously, the storage options were 50GB, 200GB and 2TB. The monthly cost for these is $0.99, $2.99 and $10.99, respectively.
But starting on September 18, iCloud+ will include two new plans: 6TB for $29.99 per month and 12TB for $59.99 per month.
“The new plans are great for users with large photo and video libraries or those using Family Sharing,” said Apple.
The additional storage tiers were announced Tuesday at Apple’s Wonderlust event, along with the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9.
Bonus features
All the for-pay iCloud+ storage plans come with bonus features. And not the usual drek that some companies call “bonus features.”
Apple’s are mostly privacy related, and make accessing the web and using email more secure. The list includes Private Relay, Hide My Email, Custom Email Domains and HomeKit Secure Video support.
