Apple TV+ just gave its first look at Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, an upcoming series set in the MonsterVerse that contains Godzilla and other classic kaiju.
The sci-fi series will star Kurt Russell, and will feature a family searching for their link to the secretive Monarch organization.
Godzilla and Kurt Russell will share the limelight in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
For those who have not seen any of the MonsterVerse films, (1) What’s wrong with you? and (2) Rest assured Godzilla and the other kaiju put aside their rubber suits in the recent string of hit movies. It kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla and continued in 2017 with Kong: Skull Island. These were followed by 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong.
Now the MonsterVerse is getting a 10-episode series on Apple TV+.
The official description says:
Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

The series was co-created by Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) and Chris Black (Severance, Star Trek: Enterprise). Black also serves as showrunner.
Although Apple TV+ released a series of images of the stars of the series — including the largest star ever to appear on the streamer — it did not announce a release date or even a window for when the series will premiere.

Apple offers plenty of sci-fi
While it’ll likely be a while before Godzilla stomps onto Apple’s streaming service, there’s already plenty of great sci-fi on it. There’s the adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation (currently in its second epic season), gritty post-apocalyptic series Silo and the weirdo mega-hit Severance. There are multiple seasons of the alternate-history For All Mankind and much more.
Any and all of these come with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple TV+.
