Anyone eagerly awaiting the Apple TV+ adaptation of Nathan Pyle’s Strange Planet graphic novels should be thrilled by the trailer released Tuesday. The upcoming animated series captures the gentle mockery of human foibles from the books.
The series will premiere on Apple’s streaming service in two weeks.
Strange Planet trailer: Existence is absurd
The Simpsons made animated comedies for adults cool. More recent series like Bojack Horseman and Archer are made strictly for adults. Strange Planet is also for an adult audience, but that’s mostly because young children don’t understand enough about society to get the quirky humor.
“Set in a whimsical world of cotton candy pinks and purples, relatable blue beings explore the absurdity of everyday human traditions,” says Apple about the upcoming show.

Popular graphic novel jumps to Apple TV+
Nathan Pyle launched Strange Planet on Instagram, then pivoted to a graphic novel. This became a New York Times No. 1 bestseller. Pyle released two follow-up books.
Dan Harmon, co-creator of adult animated series Rick and Morty, adapted Pyle’s graphic novel for Apple TV+. Voice actors include Gotham Award nominee Tunde Adebimpe (Rachel Getting Married), Emmy nominee Demi Adejuyigbe (The Amber Ruffin Show), Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens), Critics’ Choice nominee Danny Pudi (Community) and Emmy nominee Hannah Einbinder (Hacks).
Coming in two weeks!
Strange Planet will premiere on Apple TV+ on August 9, 2023. It’ll launch with the first three episodes, followed by a new one in the 10-episode season appearing each Wednesday.
Watching will come with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple TV+. That’s a lower price than all of its larger streaming rivals. And there are no commercial interruptions.
The streaming service offers plenty more hilarious comedies. Beyond the mega-hit Ted Lasso, there’s Shrinking, Bad Sisters, Platonic, Schmigadoon! and more.
