‘Ridiculous Fishing EX’ offers way more explosions than you might expect
Go on a gills and glory quest in Ridiculous Fishing EX.

Fishing is a sport that requires patience. Ridiculous Fishing EX is a game that requires guns, chainsaws and toasters. Players go on a heroic quest for gills and glory in this action title.

The newly revamped game exploded onto Apple Arcade on Friday.

Ridiculous Fishing EX ain’t like regular fishing

If the name of this just-released game sounds familiar, the original version of Ridiculous Fishing debuted in 2010. But Dutch game developer Vlambeer rewrote it from the ground up for Apple Arcade, adding new content and gorgeous 3D art.

The revamp was a two-year process by Vlambeer (Super Crate Box, Nuclear Throne), Zach Gage (SpellTower, Knotwords, Good Sudoku, Really Bad Chess, Card of Darkness) and Greg Wohlwend (Threes, Hundreds, TumbleSeed).

Gameplay starts out somewhat similar to the usual sport, with players sending hooks down into the briny depths. But what’s available to catch isn’t at all typical, and subduing the fish… some of them are fish… is much more exciting than one might expect. Much more exciting. Here’s where the extreme violence and experimental weapons come into play.

Ridiculous Fishing EX promises hours of fun with the fringes of multiple continents to explore. Plus there’s an all-new Pro Fishing Tour endgame mode. Players will need to upgrade their guns (and outfits) to be a success.

Grab your pole and guns and get playing

Ridiculous Fishing EX is now in the Apple Arcade section of the App Store. There are versions for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and game controllers are supported.

Twisting an ordinary sport while also amping it up is a popular game genre. Other examples in Apple Arcade include What the Golf? and What the Car?.

Access to all these games — and over 200 more — comes with a $4.99-per-month subscription. And one subscription works for up to six family members. And there are never hidden costs in the games. In-app purchases are forbidden.
