Apple News said Monday its popular soccer podcast After the Whistle with Brendan Hunt and Rebecca Lowe will return for a second season July 19.

While the first season saw Hunt — Coach Beard on the smash hit Apple TV+ soccer comedy Ted Lasso — and veteran sports broadcaster Lowe applying their super fandom to the Men’s World Cup tournament, the second season focuses on the 2023 Women’s World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

After the Whistle with Brendan Hunt and Rebecca Lowe returns to Apple News and Apple Podcasts July 19

In the new season of the podcast, Ted Lasso co-creator Hunt and longtime NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage host Lowe “will recap the most exciting moments of the tournament; break down key plays, wins, upsets, and off-field moments; and be joined by a slate of special guests,” Apple News noted. It produces the podcast.

“We’re so proud that After the Whistle will be back for another season to bring listeners all the action from the World Cup this summer,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services. “Brendan and Rebecca’s passion and excitement for the game is unmatched, and we can’t wait for fans around the world to tune in.”

Listen to the trailer

Apple said you can hear a trailer for the new season of After the Whistle on either Apple News or Apple Podcasts, and follow the show for new episodes throughout the tournament.

The trailer page describes what to expect:

They’ll talk about all the superstars, the drama … and, of course, the Team USA women, who are hoping to secure their third World Cup win in a row. Plus, Brendan and Rebecca will have a few special guests stopping by along the way.

In the trailer, Hunt identifies himself in deadpan fashion as “currently unemployed.” That comes back at the end when he excitedly reports the duo will be on the ground in Sydney and other cities, but Lowe stops him, saying she’s not going down there. Because she has a job. “Must be nice,” Hunt mutters.

But he really will be on location Down Under, watching and reporting on matches. And apparently they’ll link up via studio magic to record the podcasts.

World Cup preview airs July 19, tourney starts July 20

After the Whistle premieres on Apple News and Apple Podcasts July 19 with a preview of the tournament, which begins July 20.

After that, new episodes will show up a few times a week after matches. Apple News subscribers in the U.S. and Apple Podcasts users in 101 countries and regions can listen to them for free.

The first season of After the Whistle covered the most recent men’s World Cup tournament. It featured lots of special guests, including author Glennon Doyle and her spouse, former player Abby Wambach, plus NBA coaches Steve Kerr and Steve Nash, late night comedy host Seth Meyers, and Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein.

You can keep up with your favorite teams and tournament happenings in Apple News and sync with the Apple TV app to watch games.

Also note, viewers in the U.S. and Canada can visit the Sports section of the Apple TV app from July 20 to August 20 to watch matches. From the Apple TV app, you can also click to watch matches in English on FOX Sports or in Spanish on Peacock, Apple News said.
