The Galactic Empire and the Foundation prepare for massive conflict in a new trailer for Apple TV+ show Foundation, with the sci-fi series’ gorgeous special effects and cinematography very much on display.
Foundation season two premieres July 14. So now’s the time to watch the epic trailer Apple released Thursday — or get caught up on season one.
Foundation season 2 starts a galactic war
Isaac Asimov’s original Foundation sci-fi novels from the 1940s and 1950s were highly acclaimed and groundbreaking, influencing Star Wars and other franchises. They tell the story of a band of exiles struggling to save humanity during and after the fall of a Galactic Empire.
Apple TV+ is making the very first screen adaptation of the novels. Foundation season one debuted in 2021, beginning the story of the fall of the Galactic Empire and the seeds of the Foundation that will bring a return of civilization.
The official preview of Foundation season two says:
More than a century after the season one finale, tension mounts throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself. The Foundation has entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach and inciting the Second Crisis: war with Empire.

Season two will star Emmy-nominated actors Jared Harris and Lee Pace from season one, along with Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey. David S. Goyer wrote the screen adaptation and also serves as showrunner.
The first season proved popular, and Apple TV+ is clearly hoping for similar success with the second. The streaming service always releases trailers for its movies and series. But this is actually the third one for the space opera, counting a teaser and the first trailer from June.

The 10-episode second season of Foundation will debut globally with one episode on July 14. New episodes will follow weekly on Fridays.
Watching comes with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s streaming video service. And considering Foundation season one wrapped in November 2021, now might be a good time to go back and watch those episodes again.
