The iPhone 15 Pro Max will cost more than last year’s equivalent version, according to an analyst. If true, this will be the first time the largest and most powerful of Apple’s flagship handsets has seen a price change since 2019.

The analyst also predicts the entire iPhone 15 series will go into production in August. The four new models are expected to launch in September.

iPhone 15 Pro Max price increase isn’t typical

Apple critics are likely to greet this unconfirmed report with some comment like, “Of course the price is going up!” But that would be ignorant, as the top-of-the line iPhone has stayed steady at $1,099 since the iPhone 11 Pro Max debuted four years ago. And that was a price decrease — the earlier iPhone XS Max was $1,249.

But Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research says it’s time for a Pro Max price increase. He did not, however, predict how large the rise would be. It’s not clear if the other iPhone 15 models will also cost more.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max will allegedly have a slightly larger display thanks to slimmer screen bezels. It’ll also bring in USB-C and more curved edges.

And the premiere model will supposedly feature a periscope lens that bends incoming light before it reaches the sensor. The change would enable a stronger telephoto lens without increasing the size of the handset’s camera hump. No other 2023 model will get this.
