Tom Holland is coming back to Apple TV+ with The Crowded Room, a 10-part limited series about a very unusual murder investigation.

It was created and written by Akiva Goldsman, best known as the screenwriter of A Beautiful Mind.

The Crowded Room doesn’t have the usual murder suspect

The word “thriller” appears in the descriptions of many Apple TV+ series, including the mega-hit Severance. It’s a popular genre that pulls in plenty of viewers.

This summer, the collection of thrillers on Apple’s streaming service grows with The Crowded Room. It stars Holland as Danny Sullivan, a suspect being interrogated by Rya Goodwin (played by Amanda Seyfried) about his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979. During the investigation, “Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation,” says Apple.

For major SPOILERS that Apple is careful to not reveal, the story is loosely based on the award-winning biography The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes. (Follow that link only if you want to know the “life-altering revelation” now.)

There’s no trailer for the series yet, but Apple did reveal the first images.

Tom “Spider-Man” Holland brings much of the star power to The Crowded Room, but show creator Akiva Goldsman adds plenty, too. In addition to A Beautiful Mind, his writing credits include I, Robot; I Am Legend and Cinderella Man. He’s also a co-creator of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The Apple TV+ thriller also will star Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Sasha Lane, Will Chase and Lior Raz, along with guest stars Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, Thomas Sadoski and Zachary Golinger.

Coming in June

The Crowded Room will make its global debut on Apple’s streaming service on Friday, June 9, 2023, with the first three episodes. These will be followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.

Holland’s previous collaboration with Apple TV+ is Cherry — a film about an Iraq war veteran who degenerates into robbing banks — that’s available now on Apple’s streaming video service.

A subscription to the service costs $6.99 per month, one of the lowest prices on the streaming market.
