Apple now offers a Depth and Water Seal Test for the Apple Watch Ultra. The evaluation will check whether your smartwatch’s seals and depth gauge are working correctly.
This is the first time the company is offering such a kind of test for any of its water-resistant products.
Apple will first visually inspect your Apple Watch Ultra
Before proceeding with the examination, Apple will check your Apple Watch Ultra for any physical damage or crack. This is important as any cracks in the chassis or display could lead to water entering the internals and causing permanent damage.
After the visible inspection, your Apple Watch Ultra will be put through a water seal and depth gauge test.
Apple’s Depth and Water Seal Test support page explains why you’d want to get the analysis done on your Apple Watch Ultra. With the test, you can know if the depth gauge inside your smartwatch is functioning properly. This will be useful for divers who rely on the Apple Watch Ultra during their diving sessions.
Another scenario is when your Apple Watch Ultra has received heavy physical damage. It is always good to get its water-resistant seals tested in such cases before exposing it to water. While the Apple Watch Ultra has a titanium chassis, it is not indestructible.
Don’t expect a free replacement for your physically damaged watch
Apple warns that any unseen damage could lead to water ingress during the test and leave your watch non-operational. In such cases, if the issue is not covered under warranty, Apple may charge you a fee to send a replacement Apple Watch Ultra unit.
You can contact Apple support to request a Depth and Water Seal Test for your Apple Watch Ultra. The company says you should receive your smartwatch within 7-10 business days from the date you mail it in.
