Ikea unveiled its new indoor air-quality monitor Tuesday. With a name that sounds like a Swedish jet fighter — Vindstryka — it’s designed to help you combat pollutants in your home or office. And it will be HomeKit- and Matter-compatible through the Ikea Dirigera hub after the company updates it.

The Swedish home furnishings giant set an April launch date for the monitor but hasn’t added a price tag yet.

Ikea Vindstryka indoor air quality monitor

“Although we spend most of our time indoors, many of us tend to forget about indoor air pollution. We take for granted that the air in our homes is clean, but small everyday activities like cooking or cleaning can contribute to poor air quality just as much as industry or traffic,” Henrik Telander, product owner at Ikea of Sweden, said in a press release.

“With Vindstryka, our ambition has been to create an affordable high-performing air quality sensor to help our customers become more aware of the quality of the air they breathe in their homes,” he added.

HomeKit and Matter compatibility pending

The new Vindstryka indoor air quality monitor will be compatible with HomeKit and the new Matter smart-home connectivity standard. That’s because it will work with Ikea’s Dirigera smart hub. Ikea plans to update the hub to enable that compatibility but has not indicated a date yet, 9to5Mac reported.

And through the hub it will work with other products to help improve air quality. For example, it could trigger a fan-speed adjustment on an air purifier.

Big display and color-coded air-quality levels

Vindstryka features a big, backlit display for easy reading. It tells you PM2.5 levels of particulate matter in the air and total volatile organic levels (TVOC) of gaseous pollutants. It also provides temperature and humidity readings.

Air quality levels are displayed as numbers but also with the colors green, yellow or red. That gives you a quick impression of the pollution level, from low to high.

While the Vindstryka indoor air-quality monitor isn’t available yet (coming in April), you can get the Dirigera hub for $69.99 at Ikea.
