Modern computer setups lean more and more on smart lighting for practical uses and to set the mood. Some of it can even pulse and change in sync to music or action on your screen.
Today’s featured MacBook Pro setup leans heavily on colorful Nanoleaf smart-light patterns on the walls — so much so that people compared it to a strip club.

Nanoleaf smart lights decorate trader’s MacBook Pro and super-ultra-wide display setup
Trader and Redditor JatBains exposed the M1 Pro MacBook Pro setup in a post entitled, “My Nanoleaf setup for Trading.” He didn’t say if he trades stocks, commodities, crypto or something else.
But commenters sure had fun speculating. One noted the absence of a Bloomberg terminal and guessed Jan might be a day trader or a crypto guy.
But others showed more interest in the room’s aesthetic.
“Does one require strip-club lighting for either?” quipped another commenter, in reference to the copious amounts of colorful Nanoleaf Shapes smart lights festooning the walls.
That cued another person — possibly a trader, perhaps a smartass or maybe somebody whose buds call him “brah” — to chime in.
“The lights flash colors as you trade,” they said. “All real traders know this. THE GAINZ MAKE GLOWZ!”
And that, predictably, led to some uncharitable commentary.
“Ah, so this is less a Mac setup, and more of a circus to support the clown’s act,” sniffed a commenter.
Another person said the Nanoleafs remind them of “those ugly rugs in casinos.”
But not all of the comments were naughty and withering. Here’s a nice one:
“That’s an amazing setup. Looks great! Thank you for sharing it with us.”
Samsung G9 gaming display
Jay uses his 2021 M1 Pro MacBook to drive an epic, 49-inch Samsung Odyssey G9 curved ultra-wide gaming display with a 32:9 aspect ratio and Nvidia G-Sync and FreeSync technologies.
It gives him the screen space of two 27-inch panels in QLED quality and either a 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate — friendly for gaming action — depending on the specific model.

And of course, the “strip-club lighting,” as one commenter described it, comes from at least two sets of Nanoleaf Shapes smart lights with 16 million colors and dimming control.
You can sync them with music or action on your display to provide a light show. Or they can just make sexy shapes on the wall, throwing off enough light to make your room look like a den of iniquity (at least to some people).
Behind the display you can see the Lines set, which you can connect to make your own designs. And on the far wall you see a Triangles set, which you can arrange in any sort of geometric shape.
