You’ve heard the outcry before — the robots are coming to take our jobs! But as it turns out, the joke is mainly on the robots. Most of us would be more than happy to give up some, or even all, of our responsibilities and let a dedicated computer brain pick up the slack for a while instead.

Fortunately for humanity, that’s become increasingly common, with robots doing those jobs amazingly well. For example, Narwal Robotics has been on the cutting edge of robot mop and vacuum technology for a while following the release of its well-received vacuum bot from last year, the Narwal T10. Now, the company has unveiled the next step in its bot-cleaning revolution with the brand-new Narwal Freo.

Narwal Freo: Ultimate robovac and mop?

The T10 garnered many accolades for its dual vacuuming and mopping cleverness. But Narwal decided to raise the stakes with the Freo. That starts with the Freo’s new DirtSense technology, which gives this robot the ability to intelligently sense exactly how dirty an area is, then go over it just the right amount of times to get that spot nice and clean.

Meanwhile, the unit also features Narwal’s new Smart-Swing feature. This lets it mop as close as possible to wall edges to ensure those dead corners get cleaned. Plus, the side brushes’ 14-degree angle offers the most efficient way to collect all the dust while not spinning it out into the air.

DirtSense technology and Freo Mode

Freo’s DirtSense digs in on the mopping side, with settings on the app for different floor types: wooden floor, tile floor and cobblestone. After adjusting to the correct floor setting, the Freo mops accordingly under Freo Mode, adjusting the downward force and humidity of the robot mopping pads to clean properly while preventing any damage to the flooring.

But perhaps the most significant leap taken by the Freo is that, unlike the manual switches required with the T-10, this new robot automatically shifts from vacuuming to mopping and back again all by itself. That means no more picking up the robot and changing out mop pads. The Freo is like an autonomous 4-x-4 vehicle, shifting on the fly on its own to handle whatever cleaning task it needs to get done.

Once it finishes its route, the Freo hops back to its handy cleaning station. There it detects how dirty the mop heads are, and rinses them with a mixture of water and Narwal’s exclusively formulated floor cleaner. Then it dries them using dual 40-degree-Celsius wind tunnels to prevent bacteria growth and better preserve the mop pad fabric.

While that’s all controllable through the Narwal Freo app, the docking station packs its own LCD touchpad control that shows most of the settings and cleaning status. It’s perfect for those who don’t want to take out their phones. And it’s the first and only robovac on the market with this feature
