The holidays are a season for travel and joy, but feeling unsafe in your own hotel or Airbnb might undercut all that wholesomeness. If you’re worried there might be a hidden camera in your hotel or Airbnb, you can identify it by shining an infrared light in their general vicinity. This Anti-Spy Camera Finder is an easy-to-use tool for spotting rogue camera lenses in your lodging, and it’s on sale for $59.95.

Find hidden cameras with this compact tool

Ideally, there wouldn’t be any hidden cameras in your lodging, but considering the number of incidents Airbnb and hotel guests have experienced, it’s reasonable to exercise caution. To use the camera spotter, flip the power switch and turn on the LED flashlight and infrared scanner. Then, start scoping out your room. If there’s a suspiciously placed object that might house a camera, point at it with the Camera Finder. If there is, a bright red spot will reflect off of its lens.

Though hidden cameras aren’t common, potential hiding places include smoke detectors, alarm clocks, electrical outlets, mirrors and even stuffed animals. If you find a camera in your hotel, you should contact management immediately, and if you find one in your Airbnb room, contact the local authorities and Airbnb itself.

This little security tool can also come in handy when you aren’t searching for cameras. For example, you can press the camera spotter’s one-button alarm for five seconds to put it on standby. Once you release the button, the device will sound an alarm, alerting people nearby of danger. You may never have to use it, but traveling could feel much safer with that extra bit of personal security.
