If you have the space on or near your desk for them, Monoprice just put out a pair of powered desktop speakers that promise audiophile sound to boost your computer setup’s audio output.

The Monoprice Monolith MTM 100 Powered Desktop Speakers put out 50 watts of sonic power apiece and feature bass panels on the sides.

Monolith is Monoprice’s premium audio line. The MTM 100 speakers are large for desktop or bookshelf speakers, but not so large they’d be considered standing speakers. Each one puts out 50W of power per channel.

“The Monolith MTM Desktop Speakers deliver stunning audiophile performance for your desktop,” the company said. “These speakers feature an accurate frequency response, exceptional sonic clarity, punchy, powerful bass, and present a spacious and musical soundstage.”

And together, the pair of speakers also work as a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). They include a subwoofer output and a variety of inputs: USB-C, Toslink optical and RCA analog.

Monoprice said setting up the speakers is simple:

Set up is a breeze: Connect easily through analog RCA and 3.5mm inputs or through the optical or USB digital inputs. Pair your device wirelessly using the Bluetooth with Qualcomm aptX HD Audio for high quality, CD audio level Bluetooth performance. A headphone jack adorns the front, allowing you to easily switch between the speakers and headphones. The Monolith MTM powered speakers are a perfect, great sounding addition to a home office, gaming, or bedroom system.

A nice element of these speakers is the bass panel on the sides of each one. That should fill in and spread out low end more than many small desktop and bookshelf speakers can.

Monolith MTM speaker specifications:

  • Power: 50W per speaker
  • Frequency response: 45Hz-20Khz +/- 3db
  • Dual 4in woofers
  • 1in silk dome tweeter
  • 5.25in passive radiator

  • Toslink optical input
  • USB-C input
  • RCA and 3.5mm Inputs
  • Subwoofer output

With speakers with specs like those, you’re going to pay a fairly steep price. The Monolith MTM speakers go for $499 per pair. If you like big sound, they could be worth it.
