The Kensington StudioDock turns an iPad into a iMac with a wide range of ports and wireless chargers. It’s a powerful accessory that launched in 2021 at a very high price. Kensington has now cut the price almost in half, making the stand affordable to many more customers.
The professional-grade accessory is available for both 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions of the iPad Pro.
Kensington StudioDock makes an iPad into a desktop
Many people use an iPad as their primary computer. The tablet goes with them wherever they go, then connects to an external keyboard and mouse in the office or at home. The StudioDock is designed for this group.
The iPad magnetically connects to the dock making it easily removable. And the screen can be used in either portrait or landscape orientation. The two devices communicate over a USB-C connection.
On the back of the StudioDock are three USB-A ports, a 4K HDMI 2.0 port and a Gigabit Ethernet jack. A USB-C port sits on the left side, while a 3.5mm audio jack and SD 4.0 card reader are on the right side.
iPhone and AirPods wireless chargers are located on the front.
The accessory is smart enough to take home a CES 2021 Innovations Award. The Cult of Mac review said the StudioDock “makes an iPad into a small iMac… an iMac that lets you pop off the screen and take it with you.”
Much more affordable
The Kensington StudioDock launched at $399.99, but is now selling for $219.99, a 46% decrease.
Choose carefully. One version is for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2018, 2020), another for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2021) and a third for the 11-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air (2020).
In addition, the Kensington StudioCaddy device rack and charger, which launched at $179.99, is now $99.99.
