Concealed in Wednesday’s invite to the Apple early fall event is an augmented reality Easter egg. It’s not just cool – it might be a hint of what to expect.

The graphic for the September 7 “Far Out” event shows the Apple logo made of stars. The AR version is a 3D orb filled with stars floating in space.

To see the Easter egg, go to the official Apple Events page. This must be done on an iPhone, not an iPad or Mac. Next, tap on the big Apple graphic you see on that web page. (It’s just above “Apple Event.”) That will launch the ARKit augmented-reality viewer built into iOS.

The Apple September event invite has a starry Apple logo. The AR version is a globe of empty space filled with moving stars that seemingly floats in your office, living room, wherever. You can walk around and look it it from all sides through the power of augmented reality. Or spin it around.

Unlike previous AR Easter eggs hidden in Apple event invites, this one doesn’t have the company’s logo. However, the version in a tweet from Greg “Joz” Joswiak, Apple’s global head of marketing, does include the logo.

‘Far Out’ devices expected

People love to look for hints of what Apple will unveil hidden in its event invites. The iPhone 14 is supposedly on the agenda of the September event, and it’s possible the starry logo is a reference to an astrophotography mode for the camera. Or even direct satellite communication.
