If you ride a bike, now you can now get turn-by-turn navigation from Apple Maps in all 50 states. That’s because cycling directions recently arrived in Hawaii.
If you get rolling now, there’s just time to bike through the whole country in … never. Not gonna happen.
But it’s nice to know directions are available all over if you ever need them.
After adding Hawaii, Apple Maps now offers cycling directions in all 50 states
After recently adding Hawaii, Apple Maps now offers cycling navigation across all 50 U.S. states, allowing bike riders to receive turn-by-turn directions.
As of July, Apple Maps cycling directions had covered 49 U.S. states, as noted by Apple Maps maven Justin O’Beirne. And recent availability in Hawaii makes for complete nationwide coverage.
Apple Maps offers cycling directions along bike lanes, bike paths and bike-friendly roads to the extent possible. Directions include details like elevation, amounts of traffic in given spots and other factors, like whether a route has stairs in places.
Voice guidance and haptic feedback on Apple Watch also make it easier for users to stay focused on their path.
Apple Maps cycling directions are also available in select other regions, including Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Barcelona, London and China.
Catching up to Google Maps
Regarding cycling navigation, Cupertino has been trying to catch up to Google Maps. The latter started adding cycling directions in 2010. Now it offers the feature in more than 30 countries.
But Google Maps isn’t ahead on every aspect. For example, it’s only now adding granular details for cycling directions, like elevation and other items as described above.
