Apple Music Sessions are newly recorded live tracks and videos available only on Apple’s streaming music service. The recordings will be from current stars and emerging artists.

Sessions are starting off in Nashville with Carrie Underwood, Tenille Townes and others, but Apple promises to expand to other music genres soon.

Apple Music Sessions are exclusive live performances

Apple Music offers over 90 million songs and 30,000 expert-curated playlists. It can be played on a wide variety of devices, from HomePod to Roku.

Apple Music Sessions will expand that collection with live recordings made around the world. They “gives artists the opportunity to reimagine and recreate hits from their catalog, and creative covers of beloved classics,” according to Apple.

The tracks are recorded in Spatial Audio for a more immersive listening experience. The performances are also filmed to create music videos that will all be available exclusively to Apple Music subscribers worldwide.

Starts with Carrie Underwood and Tenille Townes

Apple Music Sessions officially launches Friday with releases from Carrie Underwood and Tenille Townes, recorded out of Apple Music’s new studios in Nashville.

Underwood performed her hit “Ghost Story,” as well as a stripped-back version of “Blown Away,” and a cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

“I have always been an Ozzy Osbourne fan and ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ is one of my all-time favorite songs,” Underwood said. “I’ve always thought it felt a lot like a country song, and I’ve wanted to cover it for a long time. I hope we’ve done Ozzy proud and I hope he likes it.”

Townes said, “It was so cool capturing the spirit of how it feels to play my songs live with my band during the Apple Music Sessions performance.”

Other country artists already lined up include Ronnie Dunn and Ingrid Andres.
