In new Apple TV+ documentary series Gutsy, Hillary Rodham Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton will interview women the pair find inspirational.

The eight-part docuseries, based on the Clintons’ bestseller The Book of Gutsy Women, will premiere September 9, Apple said Thursday in a press release.

Gutsy docuseries on Apple TV+

“The docuseries features Hillary and Chelsea as they embark on a thought-provoking journey to speak with pioneering women artists, activists, community leaders and everyday heroes who show us what it truly means to be gutsy,” Apple said. “The series shows Hillary and Chelsea as you’ve never seen them before, revealing their special mother-daughter bond and the unique, multi-generational way they approach the important and timely issues highlighted in each episode.”

Some of the “extraordinary, courageous and resilient women” who will step into the Gutsy spotlight include:

  • Billionaire businesswoman/socialite Kim Kardashian
  • “Hot Girl Summer” rapper Megan Thee Stallion
  • Pioneering primatologist Jane Goodall
  • Famous feminist Gloria Steinem
  • Standup comedians/actresses Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer
  • Actresses Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.

Gutsy was produced for Apple by the Clintons’ production company, HiddenLight Productions, in association with Left/Right, the company said. Hillary and Chelsea serve as executive producers of the series, with Johnny Webb, Siobhan Sinnerton, Roma Khanna, Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver and Anna Chai. (Chai also serves as showrunner.)

Also involved: producers Kevin Vargas and Claire Featherstone, and consulting producers Huma Abedin and Bari Lurie.

Documentaries on Apple TV+

The series joins a growing list of original documentaries, both films and series, on Apple TV+. Many focus on bands and recording artists (as befits Apple’s longstanding love affair with music). However, others deal with politics, nature and meatier topics.

Documentary standouts include Boys State, which Cult of Mac reviewer Scout Tafoya called a “timely and terrifying political documentary,” and Werner Herzog’s Fireball: Visitors From Darker Worlds. (Both those films made Cult of Mac’s list of best movies on Apple TV+, by the way.)

Nature docuseries Tiny World (about Earth’s smallest creatures) and Prehistoric Planet (about dinosaurs) also serve up plenty of thrilling infotainment.

Apple TV+ costs $4.99 per month. A subscription gets you access to an ever-growing catalog of exclusive content, including breakout comedy Ted Lasso and recent sci-fi hit Severance.
