Select iPad mini 6 users are having trouble charging their device after installing the iPadOS 15.5 update. Apple is aware of the problem and investigating the cause behind the problem.
The problem seems to be related to software and is not a hardware one.
iPad mini 6 users facing charging woes
MacRumors reports that Apple has sent a memo informing its service providers about the problem. As a temporary fix, the company recommends users restart their iPad mini. It notes that replacing the battery or the tablet will not solve the problem since this is a software issue. This means only a software update will resolve the problem.
There are multiple threads on Apple’s support forums from frustrated iPad mini 6 users complaining about the issue. Many users tried different cables and chargers to no avail. A factory reset or a restart only works as a temporary solution since the problem seems to resurface again after about 3-4 days.
Most reports have popped up in the last couple of weeks, while Apple rolled out iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 in mid-May.
It is unclear if the issue is widespread or only affecting a small number of iPad mini 6 users. Nonetheless, Apple acknowledging the issue is a positive sign since it means a fix could be out sooner than later.
iPadOS 15.6 might fix the bug
If you are also in the same boat as other iPad mini 6 users, there’s not much you can do. You can try a restart or a force reboot as a temporary workaround. Alternatively, you can switch off the tablet and then put it on charge to see if that works.
In case your iPad mini 6 is still running iPadOS 15.4, you should avoid upgrading to the newer release. The upcoming iPadOS 15.6 release may contain a fix for this charging problem.
