Greg “Joz” Joswiak, Apple’s marketing chief, shared an image of a surprised young girl today. It looks like a photo, but the image was instead drawn by an Apple employee using an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.
Check Joswiak‘s post for the full image. And never doubt that iPad is a serious tool for creating amazing art.
An artist, an iPad Pro, Procreate and an Apple Pencil create amazing art
Since the early days of tools like Adobe Illustrator, artists have used Macs and mice/trackpads as their canvases and brushes. But the iPad’s touchscreen is a more direct experience when making art, allowing creators to touch their work. And the Apple Pencil enables exact control of images on the tablet’s display.
Joswiak shared an image on Twitter that clearly shows what’s possible with these tools. He said, “Can you believe the photo-realism of this portrait?! It took almost 40 hours to create and was made by Stefano, one of our talented team members in Italy, using iPad Pro with Procreate and Apple Pencil.”

Procreate from Savage Interactive is one of the most popular painting tools for creating art on an iPad. It even lets users paint in 3D. The software is $9.99 on the Apple App Store.
