The trailer for Roar shows the anthology series lives up to its billing as “darkly comic feminist fables.” It will premier on Apple TV+ in mid-April, but the trailer gives an an early look at the array of episodes.

And it’s not the only dark comedy headed for the streaming service. Apple on Thursday also announced Bad Sisters, which will debut later in 2022.

Roar puts feminism front and center

In Roar, women eat photographs, date ducks, live on shelves like trophies. Their stories span genres from magical realism to psychological horror. Episodes are deliberately extreme to draw attention to larger problems.

The series will feature Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman as well as Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo; Emmy nominee Issa Rae; Emmy winner Merritt Wever; SAG Award nominee Alison Brie; Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin and more.

Apple TV+ will premiere eight episodes of Roar simultaneously on Friday, April 15, 2022.

A blend of both dark comedy and thriller, Bad Sisters follows the lives of the Garvey sisters, who are bound together by the premature death of their parents and a promise to always protect one another.

Emmy nominee Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe, Shining Vale) is the creator and star. The series will also star Anne-Marie Duff (Suffragette, The Salisbury Poisonings), Eva Birthistle (Brooklyn, The Last Kingdom), Sarah Greene (Frank of Ireland, Dublin Murders) and Eve Hewson (Behind her Eyes, The Luminaries).

The date Bad Sisters will premier on Apple’s streaming service was not announced on Thursday.

Watching either Roar or Bad Sisters comes with a $4.99-a-month subscription to Apple TV+. They’ll join many other films and series. In just the next couple of weeks will come the premiers for the drama Pachinko and the spy thriller Slow Horses.
