Slack promises a “major update” for the iPad version of its application. It mixes the mobile and desktop versions into a design suited for a tablet.

With so many people working from home, iPad has become a computer millions depend on for their jobs. And Slack is a part of the daily routine for many of them, leading to complaints about the design of the previous version.

Slack for iPad get a better UI

Slack’s new new interface “brings the best of our mobile and desktop designs together while providing a unique and seamless Slack experience for the iPad,” says Slack’s Andrew Dudley in a blog post.

It features a redesigned two-column layout that looks and acts more like the desktop version.

Changes to the left-hand sidebar are an important part of the UI change. Sections are now collapsible so groups of channels can be hidden. And section preferences now synced with the desktop version.

There are a number of accessibility enhancements as well.

“The iPad is a unique device that demands the power of a desktop experience with the simplicity of a mobile app,” says Akshay Bakshi, Slack’s Group Product Manager. ”Our updated iPad app bridges this gap and allows users to stay productive, organized and connected to their digital HQ in a work-from-anywhere world.”

Dudley promises that the update to Slack for iPad will launch on March 16, but it is not yet on the App Store at the time of this writing.
