Need to add a little more graphical firepower to your Mac Pro? AMD rolled out its new Radeon Pro W6600X GPU for Mac Pro on Tuesday, now available at Apple for $700.

The new graphics processing unit is designed to boost image quality and performance for design pros and other content creators.

AMD said it built its new “mid-range” GPU on its energy-efficient, high-performance AMD RDNA 2 architecture. It noted the Radeon PRO W6600X delivers crisp visuals and increased performance to power a variety of professional applications and workloads.

“The AMD Radeon PRO W6600X GPU completes the W6000X product family, providing a mid-range solution with great performance for graphics-rich content creation,” said Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Graphics Business Unit. “AMD is proud to offer Mac Pro users a comprehensive portfolio of powerful graphics solutions with amazing performance to meet all their creative design and content creation needs.”

Other key features:

  • High-speed GDDR6 memory. Up to 8GB of GDDR6 memory with up to 256 GB/s bandwidth provides fast transfer speeds for data-intensive applications.
  • AMD Infinity Cache. An ample 32MB of last-level data cache integrated on the GPU die reduces latency and power consumption. That enables higher performance than traditional architectural designs.
  • Crisp visuals. With 8K processing and HDR support, the Pro W6600X GPU enhances video compositing and editing.

In addition to the new AMD Radeon PRO W6600X GPUs, Mac Pro Users can also select from several other AMD GPUs, including the AMD Radeon PRO W6900X, AMD Radeon PRO W6800X and AMD Radeon PRO W6800X Duo GPUs.
