Bet you wish your iPhone could charge this fast

With the right charger, your iPhone 12 or 13 can top up pretty fast. But can it charge to 50% capacity in 15 minutes, wirelessly? Nope. But that’s what former Huawei sub-brand Honor promised Monday at MWC 2022 with its latest flagship handset, the Honor Magic 4 Pro.

Fast charging with iPhone runs about half the speed Honor claims. And though we doubt many folks would ditch their iPhones for the Honor Magic Pro 4, who knows if they’ll be able to get one, anyway. The company hasn’t specified a release date or where the phones will sell.

Honor Magic Pro 4: 100W of wireless or wired charging

You can watch the MWC presentation on the Honor Magic 4 smartphones in the video below.

The Honor Magic 4 Pro charges wirelessly at 100W, allowing it to get halfway to full in 15 minutes, the company said. It added that the phone also has 100W of wired charging, which can fill up the 4,600mAh battery in half an hour.

Honor rolled out the Magic 4 Pro along with the regular Magic 4, which has lower specs. It doesn’t support 100W of wireless charging. But it does manage 66W of wired fast charging.

Powerful cameras in ‘The Eye of Muse,’ too

Honor also emphasized the Magic 4 Pro’s camera capabilities. The rear-facing camera trio sits in a distinctive ring Honor called “The Eye of Muse.” The cameras are a 50-megapixel main one, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide with a 122-degree field of view, and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom.

The regular Magic 4 includes a lower-resolution, 8-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.

Up to 120Hz OLED display

In the front, the Magic 4 Pro has a 6.81-inch LTPO OLED display. It can dynamically adjust its refresh from 1Hz to 120Hz. That’s similar to the latest iPhones’ ProMotion display technology, though it’s actually a wider range.

The Magic 4 Pro’s display curves around the device’s four edges. The standard Magic 4’s display only curves around two edges of the device. But it has a 120Hz refresh rate.

Top Qualcomm processor and other specs

Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor powers the Magic 4 series. You can get a Magic 4 with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and between 128GB and 512GB of storage. The Magic 4 Pro doesn’t include a 128GB option. The Pro has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, while the Magic 4’s is IP54, so it tolerates less exposure.

Because Honor split from former parent company Huawei, Honor’s phones can now include Google apps and services, including the Google Play Store.

Honor said both handsets will run its Magic UI 6.0 software, which is based on Android 12. The Pro model includes a “Privacy Calling” feature, which Honor said uses directional sound to minimize sound leakage during voice calls.

Pricing and (unknown) availability

Previous Honor products, like the Magic 3 handsets, came out only in China. For the Magic 4, the company released pricing in Euros, which could be a hint of where the phones will sell. The Magic 4 Pro will start at €1099 ($1,230), while the Magic 4 will start at €899 ($1,006). Both will be available in the coming months, though Honor did not share release dates or markets.
