The award-winning Apple TV+ mystery anthology series Truth Be Told starring Octavia Spencer has been renewed for a third season.
Maisha Closson (Claws, How to Get Away with Murder) will take over as showrunner and will write the upcoming season.
Truth Be Told renewed for season 3
The crime drama Truth Be Told follows Poppy Scoville (Spencer) who solves mysteries with a podcast. It asks viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice becomes entertainment.
“I am excited that the Poppy Scoville journey will continue to unfold on Apple TV+. And I’m just thrilled to welcome Maisha Closson as our new showrunner and executive producer,” said Nichelle Tramble Spellman, who created the show for Apple TV+. “Can’t wait to show you all what we have in store for you.”
The decision might have been a close one. The show won an NAACP Image Award, it has fans, and the Cult of Mac review of season 2 was generally positive. but many other critics are lukewarm at best. Bringing in Maisha Closson as writer/showrunner might help, as critics have generally praised the acting but booed the writing of earlier seasons.
