A premiere date for a hotly anticipated Apple TV+ series has finally been revealed. The Afterparty starring Tiffany Haddish and a collection of other comedians will make its debut on Apple’s streaming service on Friday, January 28.

The very unusual murder mystery was created by film virtuosos Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The Afterparty kicks off in 2 months

It was Miller who made Wednesday’s announcement of a premiere date via Twitter.

He also said in the tweet, “If a Lord-Miller genre-bending comedy murder mystery with a killer cast sounds remotely interesting to you, you will not be disappointed.”

Apple had previously said the series would launch in January 2022, but not revealed a date

A genre-defying murder comedy

The Afterparty will be an eight-episode series set at a high school reunion afterparty with old friends gathering to drink, laugh and kill someone. Each episode is seen through a different suspect’s perspective and shot in a different film genre.

“By giving each episode its own unique style of storytelling, we were able to make what feels like eight distinctly different but interconnected films that highlight how everyone’s personal perspective and biases shape how they see the world,” said Lord and Miller.

The Afterparty was created and directed by Miller, who is also showrunner. The pair are no strangers a mixing film genres, as they produced of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which Lord also co-wrote.

In addition to Tiffany Haddish, the series will star, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou and Dave Franco.
