Netflix’s promised mobile game service launches Wednesday. It’s initially only for Android but the company promises a version for iPhone and iPad is “on the way.”
It will launch with five downloadable games available to everyone with a Netflix subscription. At no extra cost.
Netflix wants to be the Netflix of game services
Netflix teased that the service was on the way in July 2021, and the wait is over… at least for Android users. “We love games, whether it’s physical games (Floor Is Lava), mind games (The Circle) or Squid Game. And we love entertaining our members,” said Mike Verdi, VP of Game Development. “That’s why we’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix games on mobile to the world.”
Let the Games Begin
Tomorrow, Netflix Games will start rolling out on the Netflix mobile app. First on Android, with iOS on the way.

The good news for subscribers to the streaming video service is that the games come at no extra cost.
And it works like Apple Arcade. Subscribers download and play the titles they’re interested in — it’s not a online gaming service like Google Stadia.
Just dipping its toe in
The list of launch titles is short. Netflix admits it’s “early days” for the service. Not surprisingly, there are a couple of tie-ins to popular Netflix shows.
- Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP)
- Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP)
- Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop),
- Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games)
- Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).
“Whether you’re craving a casual game you can start from scratch or an immersive experience that lets you dig deeper into your favorite stories, we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone,” said Verdi.
The company promises there are “a whole lot more coming.” But when the iOS version is coming is unknown.
