Storage provider LaCie has rolled out two new portable solid state drives (SSDs), including one model offered exclusively at the Apple Store in space gray to match Apple gear. Apple will offer it later this month.

In the wake of the Cupertino tech giant’s “California Streaming” event announcing the new iPhone 13 lineup and more, LaCie offers the Apple Store exclusive LaCie Mobile SSD Secure along with the LaCie Portable SSD.

Apple Store exclusive: LaCie Mobile SSD Secure

The LaCie Mobile SSD Secure is capable of transfer speeds of up to 1,050 megabytes per second over USB-C connections. Using LaCie Toolkit software with it allows you to benefit from additional hardware encryption, meaning more security.

Available only through Apple, the Mobile SSD Secure drive’s aluminum body features a Space Gray anodization that matches nicely with a range of Apple products.

The exterior of the LaCie Portable SSD nearly matches that of the LaCie Mobile SSD Secure. But its aluminum chassis is available in silver, not Space Gray. It offers the same level of drop protection (3 meters).

The two drives are similar in other ways, as well. Transfer speeds over USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connections are identical. The way the two differ, mainly, is the Portable SSD doesn’t have the Mobile SSD Secure’s hardware encryption.

Purchasing options

Apple will begin selling the LaCie Mobile SSD Secure later in September at a price of $139.99 for 500GB, $229.99 for 1TB and $399.99 for 2TB.

You can buy the LaCie Portable SSD now from LaCie.

Price: $129.99 (500GB), $209.99 (1TB) and $369.99 (2TB).
