Apple is still selling the second-generation iPhone SE following the introduction of iPhone 13 and 13 Pro on Tuesday. But its most affordable smartphone is now available with fewer storage options.

Those buying an iPhone SE today can pick from 64GB or 128GB configurations. If you really need more, you’ll have to choose another iPhone.

256GB iPhone SE is gone

Prior to Apple’s “California streaming” event, the second-generation iPhone SE was available with up to 256GB of storage. But when the Apple Store returned on Tuesday afternoon, the 256GB option was gone.

You should still be able to buy this model from third-party retailers for the time being. But once available stocks are gone, that will be it. Fortunately, Apple didn’t remove any color options — blue, white, and red are still on offer.

It’s thought that the current iPhone SE’s days are numbered anyway. A number of sources, including TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a reliable track record for predicting Apple’s plans, have reported that a third-generation refresh will come in early 2022.

The new device is expected to become Apple’s most affordable 5G smartphone and will likely offer a faster chip, but it could still carry the same design taken from iPhone 8. Ross Young, CEO of display consulting firm DSCC, previously warned a big iPhone SE redesign could be years away.

Apple expands iPhone lineup

iPhone SE isn’t the only smartphone Apple sells that’s more affordable than its flagship iPhone 13 series. iPhone 11 is still available to order from $499, as are the standard versions of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, which now start at a much more affordable $599.
